Hi everybody,
Wanna get to know some atheists from Canada since i am new here... i am an ex-muslim !
More shit brought to us by our moronic Cons right-wing religious government, after the Off of religion, now we want to enshrine pedophilia supporting Pope John II. It's not enough that Canadians sitll bow down to a ridiculous monarch, no on top of that we enshrine retarded religious figures. sigh.
Please, everyone, sign this CFI petition

Pointed out by a fellow atheist:
Man will never be free until the last king is strangled with the entrails of the last priest.

I wrote those very comments on the PQ Facebook page... GO ALL THE WAY!!! Get rid of the N.A. cross, and treat personal crosses like we do tatoos, keep'em under the clothing, not showing.
That's what I thought as well. This isn't secularism so much as discrimination against "other" religions. Really smells like a state supported religion to me.
Like Godless Poutine I was excited by the thought that they might be promoting a real secular government.
I notice I wrote "is still allowing" and "allowing" - I meant to say "would still allow" and "would allow". They're not voted in yet.
That said - they have vowed to use the Nonwithstanding Clause to fight any Supreme Court ruling. This could allow them to further bolster any "cultural wedge" between Quebec and Canada.
I'm split on the whole issue. I do see it as an *improvement* even if it goes all the way - but I can't really support it on principle because being fully secular in regards to all religions *but your own* is really the same thing as government sponsored religion.
Unfortunately, they aren't going far enough. The PQ is still allowing the crucifix to appear in the National Assembly saying it's a "cultural symbol" and allowing government workers to wear "small non ostentatious" crosses but not allowing Jews or Muslims to wear their symbols. Because of this it feels like they are excluding all religions *but* Catholicism - the religion of their "cultural history". So it's looking more like them preserving their culture than a true Secular Charter. It's a real shame - because at first it sounded like they really did want a *true* Secular Charter.

FINALLY!
The first party in our country to stand for a secular government, to be enshrined in the charter:
L’égalité entre hommes et femmes, la primauté du français et la laïcité de l'État sont des valeurs fondamentales pour les Québécois. C’est pourquoi le Parti Québécois a déposé un projet de loi visant à les faire inscrire dans la Charte des droits et libertés de la personne.
Bold translated: secular state... in the charter of rights and liberties
Nothing like that other village idiot running the city of Chicoutimi!
