"Atheism is a religion like baldness is a hairstyle." Borrowed from Two Cult Survivor, who says "It's not. But it is. But it's not." He points out that if we accept freedom of religion, the decision not to follow any religion is a "religious choice" deserving of equal respect and noncoercion.

"When a theist claims atheism is a religion, the appropriate response ... is to say 'You do not want me forcing my religion on you or your children, and I do not want you forcing your religion on me or mine.'"

Religious atheism; something new every-day GC.

Yes; to borrow a famous quote, religious believers tend to be "atheists" with respect to all those other false gods. (They only accept, and except, their own.) Atheists simply don't make that exception.

If atheism is a religion does that make religion atheism?

I just learned of the source of that meme:

Mark Schnitzius wrote "If atheism is a religion, then bald is a hair color" in response to the quote "If atheism is a religion, then health is a sickness" in the Usenet newsgroup alt.atheism on December 23, 1993. Don Hirschberg popularized the meme in a letter to Ann Landers.

And like being healthy is like harboring yet another strain of a common virus that occurs in many varieties.

Speaking of viruses, flu shots (or inhaled FluMist, for people between 2 and 49) are a Good Thing:

Immune cell: "It's the flu! ATTACK!" Virus: "Who me? No, no, I'm just a--" Cell holding up a flyer with ALERT / virus's picture / DESTROY: "Can it! We've known about you for weeks. Take it away, and finish it." Caption: Get your flu shot so your immune system can be a badass. (Beatrice the Biologist)(This is from "Get Your Flu Shot", Katie McKissick, "Symbiartic" blog at Scientific American. She writes about effective and ineffective messaging; pictures with needles or screaming babies don't encourage people to get vaccinated.)
