Anyone who wants to allege that religion doesn't harm anything has a poor apprehension for what is going on in the world ... at BEST.

Good and bad or good and evil we wouldn't hear these expletives if it wasn't for religious asceticism. They attempt to create a world of evil that only they can combat. Full of sin and lustful thoughts that are against the good nature of society, they prey upon the indignation of the housebound little miss perfects who lap it up. They call themselves moral legislators when in reality their nothing more than social perverts, a disgrace to humankind, and a typical manifestation of ideological state sponsored community divisiveness.

Honestly, I haven't heard anything like that, either ... but the fact remains that those believers who want to credit their bible with giving them morality:

  1. Have no idea what kind of morality is prescribed by the bible.
  2. Have NO idea about the real functionality of morality or where it comes from.

Again, we have to keep in mind that these are people who don't so much read the bible as they have it Read TO Them ... and because of that, they have only the most superficial understanding of that book.

A status quo which desperately needs to change.

I've personally never had anyone say those exact words to me, that religion never hurt anything.  I've heard them say religion brings about more good than bad, or that the world would be without morals without religion, and then where would we be.  Anarchy! They say.

I think we'd have less time spent on superstition and more on science.  And science is good because the more time we focus on it, the smarter we get, and the more that people will have in this beautiful world.

Religion is the original wolf in sheep's clothing, or the archetype for the phrase ''you'd swear butter wouldn't melt in his mouth''. Although publically condemning the violence around the world, perpetrated in the name of god, they must empathise with it. After-all the theistic deity (always supposing he hasn't had a change of character), is and was a god of war. What hope is there that these religious leaders will ever follow the advice; ''look and you shall see'', if they can't even understand that religious violence comes from first principles.

The secret of religions success is the fact that they start feeding horseshit to young children and tell them the entire time that it is ice cream.

Craig, I think you're being entirely too negative!  [VERY wry chuckle]  Damn, but how I hate the Roman Catholic Church.

Is the Holocaust one of those quibbles?

I hear you, Daniel.  Stephen Fry and Christopher Hitchens beat that one to death back in 2009, and that was just the RCC!

Yes,it has to be a disconnection from reality that causes the problem. The religious mind is not a natural mind.
