Well, at the time the photo was taken it was not nearly so hot out! As I went down in elevation and up in daytime temperature, the chaps come off, the leather jacket gets unzipped and eventually taken off. I'm a big believer in leather as protective gear. Both wrecks I've had in my little lifetime were made a LOT less messy thanks to leather between me and the asphalt.

But there also comes a point where it's just too hot outside, and overheating is a whole other safety issue.

By the way... the myth that full-face helmets are too hot? I don't buy it. It's well ventilated. In the desert heat when the wind becomes a blast furnace, it's quite nice to keep the hot wind off my face. I'll also drench the inside of it with water, which feels soooooo good on a hot day!

How hot does it get inside all that clobber? I sweat buckets in the warm weather just riding through town!
