"Greer, SC here (between Greenville and Spartanburg). I actually have such little problem being atheist around here that I don't even think about it most of the time, unless one of our local politicians speak. You're going to find ignorant…"
"I'm currently wanting to play ODST, but I run through so many games, it's hard to say that any one specific game is the most awaited.
I'll have ODST in about 3 hours though, so I guess there's nothing I really have to have."
"I showed this video to my husband, who is a Christian, and he loved it. He may not agree with all of it, but he did agree with the idea that religion can lead to violence. I can see why your son likes that girl -beautiful, intelligent, and with an…"
"One of the things that has made me a "calmer" atheist than in the past is the knowledge that there is a really big world out there.
And it is not ALL Christian. Take China for example. I lived there for a year.
Christians have almost NO…"
"I feel like there is a lot more good information about atheism out there now than in the past. And I give a lot of credit to the Internet for making that happen.
Before the Internet became popular it was much easier to marginalize atheists, but I…"
"I watched the video and thought it was ok, but I probably wouldn't have shown it to anyone at work, especially a known Christian. Really, I don't see much point in it unless they ask because they surely aren't going to LEARN anything…"
"The thing is, she asked to see the video because she was interested in what kind of female my son liked. My son has a very mild crush on the girl. :)
Anyway, she loved it up until the point where it said about humans inventing gods and she stopped…"
"Well, I don't know if a lawsuit would hold up but it would certainly warrant a motion or two. Even though the vid is mild, it is the kind of thing that winds up believers.
I wouldn't worry about it but I wouldn't fire your secretary…"
"Am I alone here in thinking we are frequently treated as less than citizens?
Nope. Just today I shared a rather mild youtube video
with my secretary. She threatened me with a religious harassment…"
"Well, that was a hell of a rant, Larry. Feeling like you needed to get a few things off your chest. I agree with much of it, mind you, it was simply the length and density that amused me. :)
And I don't think Dawn was advocating/defending…"
"Yeah, it was Papa George. I think that having context for the actions and quotes of people, particularly politicians, is very important. This applies to things done and said by Washington and Jefferson but also to more recent figures like President…"
So I just read a few articles, and something 'clicked'. We are constantly controlled by Christians. They run the country, and they make oppressive laws, they try to persecute us, And for what reason? I didn't believe this sort of thing years ago, when I was a naive little kid that knew nothing of the world, but as I've grown older (and become an atheist), I see it everywhere.Case in point:…See More
"It is certainly a religious thing. It is a case of "protect the faithful from their temptations, oh yeah, and everyone else too".
I actually went to a grocery store one Sunday recently and was going to buy some beer, and when I went to…"

Alex, welcome to A/N. Glad to see there's another local with eyes wide open. I posted up in SC Atheists about the local group. Of more interest may be the meetup group focused on Evolution if you're into the science of it. They have a monthly meetup and try to coordinate meetings with speakers on appropriate topics. Last month was a lecture series at the Peace Center by a noted scientist. I'm just catching up on all these groups as I just moved to the Upstate about three years ago.
