Andrew replied to Cane Kostovski's discussion Margaret Mitchell - How we can build AI to help humans not hurt us in the group Sharing the joy of Scientific Progress
"I thought of a very useful AI application the other day. When people drive their cars irresponsibly - running stoplights, tailgating, speeding, changing lanes constantly, etc. - the car takes away control from the driver. Disconnect the gas pedal,…"

Sharing the joy of Scientific Progress

Sharing results in laymen's language is a great way to promote hope and joy that science can bring in peoples' lives. I hope by visiting and sharing in this group you find the wonder, joy, and hope I feel when I read, hear, and see about scientific progress.See More

Andrew replied to Tom Sarbeck's discussion The Big Bang Doesn't Deserve Your Faith. It Also Doesn't Deserve Your Tax Money.
"Granted, the Big Bang has a shortage of empirical proof, and indeed there are other competing theories. I think it somewhat extreme, though, to declare the idea defunct and invalid. Most theory of this kind exists primarily in mathematics, and has…"

Andrew replied to Russell Pangborn's discussion Atheist Reasoning on Gun Control in the U.S
"Politicians who are cowed by the powerful gun lobby, afraid to vote against them despite the large majority of Americans who want more gun control, gladly accepting their dirty cash, and spreading their propaganda are not worthy of representing the…"

Andrew commented on Zarta's group Anti-Theists
"Chris, your point is well taken that some schools of thought are inherently more peaceful than others. However, if I'm not mistaken, I have read accounts of  violence perpetrated by Sikh followers. The point is that any dogma is subject to…"

Andrew commented on Zarta's group Anti-Theists
"AT, what you describe sounds an awful lot like the same strategy the theists use: proselytizing. I know there needs to be more education and rationality, but I don't think rationality sells to the masses very well.  If you doubt this,…"

Anti-Theists

What's wrong with there being theists in the world? As long as they're not forcing you to join them, it's ok, right? ..Wrong.. This group is to share thoughts about the dangers of theism -- and through the discussion, to be armed to enlighten others.

Andrew replied to Ruth Anthony-Gardner's discussion Anger-Incitement Playbook in the group No Nonsense
"Good point. The last thing we need is another chapter of rage in our current dystopian history. The anger and hate have to go for our country to survive."

Andrew commented on Claire Donnelly's group LGBTQI atheists, nontheists, and friends
"For me, of almost equal concern are the less hateful religious groups who don't necessarily attack particular segments of society, but still teach ideas that are regressive and divisive. For example, I've met very nice people who believe…"

"Any pseudo-authority that spouts biblical content as a justification for anything is just not worth my time or the effort to respond to their absurdity."

Hi Andrew, I'm glad you found us!

There are LOTS of groups and forums to explore here. I particularly recommend the active, relaxed, freewheeling Hang With Friends. Texas Heathens is worth a look too; and Writing to Congress offers inspiration on ways to respond to our "unpresidented" political landscape.

Groups don't clutter up a "timeline" or "news feed" page; some of us are members of many dozens.

And I keep discovering things through the "Latest Activity" in the lower right of each page. (Mobile view: menu, Activity.)

Welcome!
