Andrew replied to Imaginary Cat Owner's discussion Pippa Bacca wanted to prove that Muslims in the middle east are nice people by hitchhiking through the middle east wearing a wedding dress
"I really doubt there's a direct connection between this act of violence and Islam, as seems to be implied. This could easily have happened in any other place in the world. This was an experiment waiting for failure, including assertions that…"

Andrew replied to Joan Denoo's discussion Home Schooling vs Public Schooling
"Like private schools, some of the motivation for homeschooling comes from those opposed to public schools based on their religious and moral beliefs. I'm not saying that kids from home schools invariably or necessarily end up more poorly…"

Andrew replied to Halil Altintop's discussion Do these experiences of "seeing" Jesus give Christianity more clout?
"Like so many of religion's extraordinary claims, extraordinary evidence is required, to quote a famous guy. Excessive reliance on anecdotal information without any means of proof is, I believe, one of the fundamental reasons we're all here."

Andrew replied to Ruth Anthony-Gardner's discussion Visceral Vernacular is Great Oration in the group No Nonsense
"William Jennings Bryan? You mean the "great orator" that was a passionate opponent of "Darwinism" as they called it in his day? The guy who was instrumental in the Scopes Trial? I'll bet most of the Trump crowd doesn't…"

Andrew replied to tom sarbeck's discussion The More We Old Folks Lose Touch With Young Folks, the More Harshly We Criticize Them.
"I'm a public high school teacher at age 60, and there is not enough room here to list the differences between my students today and my classmates in the '70s. Further, this is my second career, so I was disconnected from youth for almost…"

Andrew replied to Sean Murphy's discussion Science News: Religious participation may serve to strengthen social bonds in the group Atheists who love Science!
"I'm certainly no anthropologist and have no background in the subject, but this assertion gives me pause. While it seems intuitive to me that communal rituals and activities among members of tribes or within cultural groups create a sense of…"

Andrew replied to Loren Miller's discussion Michelle Thaller on Science Denial in the group Atheists who love Science!
"John, I personally have never been so disappointed and disillusioned with America as I am now. The people have spoken and the results are alarming. I'm less concerned with the person of Trump than with the phenomenon of Trump. That our…"

Hi Andrew, I'm glad you found us!

There are LOTS of groups and forums to explore here. I particularly recommend the active, relaxed, freewheeling Hang With Friends. Texas Heathens is worth a look too; and Writing to Congress offers inspiration on ways to respond to our "unpresidented" political landscape.

Groups don't clutter up a "timeline" or "news feed" page; some of us are members of many dozens.

And I keep discovering things through the "Latest Activity" in the lower right of each page. (Mobile view: menu, Activity.)

Welcome!
