Atheism is more than just the knowledge that gods do not exist, and that religion is either a mistake or a fraud. Atheism is an attitude, a frame of mind that looks at the world objectively, fearlessly, always trying to understand all things as a part of nature part of nature. Carl Sagan

Some Advice Please

Posted on March 10, 2010 at 9:49am 9 Comments

There was a knock at my door. It was 2 of my neighbors who I never met. They were handing out invitations to a gathering on March 17th from 11:00 to 1:00. When they left I opened the invitation and it read; "You are Invited! To an informal luncheon to celebrate all God's blessings in our neighborhood! On the bottom of the invitation was Matthew 14: vs 14-21.

My first reaction to the invitation before reading it was maybe I should be polite…

Changing Winter Break

Posted on September 18, 2009 at 6:51pm 0 Comments

A couple of schools in my area want to change "Winter Break" to Christmas Break". Some parents feel that the schools are taking religion out of everything. There are some kids who do not celebrate Christmas or any other holiday. To change the name to fit the holiday would only make those kids who are the minority to stand out more. As anyone who went to school knows, kids can be very cruel. Religon should not be a part of school. What do you think?

Why Can't Dog Owners Be More Responsible?

Posted on April 29, 2009 at 11:09am 3 Comments

Why can't dog owners be more responsible? This is the 3rd time in a week I have come in contact with loose dogs. It is a frightening experience. I have 3 dogs and walk them 2 at a time. I love to walk my dogs and they are always on a leash. People just put their dogs out in their unfenced yard unattended. I am tired of being fearful to walk my dogs. I just purchased an air horn. I had to use it today because 2 labs started to approach me from their yard. I guess the owner heard the air horn and… Continue

Greetings, Cheryl! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Hey Cheryl,
Well, it would be unlikely to be hip dysplasia if the main clinical sign is weakness in the hind end. HD tends to be painful, and the symptoms are a bit different. However, xrays would rule that in or out. Yes, definitive diagnosis is based on histopathology of the spinal cord, a post-mortem thing. Sorry. The only good thing I can say is there usually is no pain with degen myelopathy. You may want to look into some of the devices used to help support the hind end during walking- there are some neat slings and so forth, or a simple bathtowel slung under the belly and held in one hand works ok in a pinch.

Good luck.

Thanks! It is getting pretty warm here. I am still recovering from the flood we had a week ago.... thank FSM it didn't get inside the house, but I lost a lot of my shed contents, a riding lawn mower, my golf cart, and two vehicles... which are not covered by flood insurance... the shed and contents are, but the rest isn't.
And that's the way the cookie crumbles... my family and pets were and are all safe, so that's what counts most... I look forward to some great conversations... :-)
