"I am a member of American Atheists, Brights, etc. The most significant barrier I've faced in becoming more active in freethought groups is that of my wife (Christian). There was some definite pain when I went from being more of…"
"Ironically enough I had found your blog right before this email lol. I think I just posted on one I'm not too sure because it didn't show up although it's quite possible that I simply made a mistake when trying to post. (I've…"
"I came out on Facebook, where I have lots of cousins and other family members. Not a peep from any of them (although a pianist I used to perform with gave me some god-babble when she found out). I later came out to my father, a former Catholic…"
"This kind of stuff (what a reader of my blog calls "liquor-store philosophy") is an offshoot, however irrational, of the Afrocentric movement. The kind of Eden-worship of precolonial Africa as a land of purity and harmony that was…"
"The stigma associated with black skin in Canada is VERY different from the USA. We don't have the same history of conflict with black folks here - most black Canadians are recent immigrants rather than the descendants of slaves. Except for…"
Black identity (particularly in North America) is inextricably linked to the struggles and reality of our brothers and sisters in the United States. However, the black experience for those living outside the USA is appreciably different. Are there other black atheists out there that are interested in sharing experiences and stories outside the States?
Greetings, Crommunist! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.
Hello Crommunist. Welcome to this rational world of Internet atheism---a haven from the superstitions and fictional god of the masses.
We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 450 discussion topics and 2550 members.
No it was a Black Firefighters Convention. The International Association of Black Professional Firefighters. They have the convention in a different state every two years. It was last in Washington State in 1998 I believe. I'm surprised it's going back there so soon. Maybe a lot of people like the area. Believe me they are far from being Atheist. They pray a lot during the meetings. It's very annoying to me. I think we have one member from Canada and he is in the eastern part of Canada. He and I use to be webmasters for the IABPFF website. We have more members in Briton, the Caribbean and Africa than Canada. I wish I had the bike when I was in Vancouver.
Hello and welcome. I visited Vancouver for a couple of days after attending a convention in Seattle some years ago. I had a rental car and a couple of days to spare so I drove up. I had a great time. Smoked a lot of Cuban cigars. You can't get them legally in the US. I would like to go back someday. The same organization is holding another convention in Seattle in August. If I attend I just may make that drive again.
