Who’s Easier to De-convert: Moderates or Fundamentalists?

Posted on June 23, 2010 at 8:37pm 6 Comments

Last week, I got into an interesting conversation with a fellow atheist about de-converting Christians. My new atheist friend expressed the opinion that he thought moderate Christians were easier to de-convert and I expressed the opinion that I thought fundamentalists were easier to de-convert.

I am not actually sure that either of us could prove our position, but I do think we each had some interesting arguments to draw on. His main argument was that moderates were already more… Continue

Science vs. Religion

Posted on June 16, 2010 at 3:10pm 1 Comment

Science and religion have pretty much always been in conflict. Both claim to be a means of determining knowledge and yet it is only through science that such a claim can be verified.

It really is amazingly ignorant of fundamentalist religious people to tell us through a computer that science is based on faith or that science is just another religion or that religion is better at determining truth. The fact is that ALL religious people use science EVERYDAY (even the Amish). Religion… Continue

The Die for a Lie Argument

Posted on June 3, 2010 at 3:07pm 0 Comments

For many young Christians, the belief in the literal resurrection of Jesus has become their primary justification for belief in the entire Christian system. One argument they use in particular is that they don’t believe that the apostles would have died for a lie.

These particular Christians often tell me how many of the apostles and early Christians were tortured for spreading the Christian belief and who in their right mind would die for a lie? Who indeed? Let’s look at this for a… Continue

Tithing for Reason

Posted on May 21, 2010 at 10:25am 8 Comments

One of the big advantages that religion has over the greater atheist/Humanist community is money. Christians are used to supporting and funding the propagation of their message. Many Christians even donate “their last dollar” to further “God’s Work.” In this world, money talks and so we need to start tithing for reason.

In the free market of ideas, there is little doubt that Humanist ideas are vastly superior to religious ideas. Religious people know it too and that is why it has… Continue

Hey--I almost never look at my comment wall, so I missed yours. What am I up to? Well, I have a few projects in mind. Among other things, I'm working on a paper explaining why ontological proofs don't work (but it has stretched out so much, and I'm so unhappy with its prose exposition so far, that I'm probably going to do a massive rewrite, and have written a short form that I *am* happy with). I have a paper on the JTB theory of knowledge and the Gettier problem and global skepticism almost done.

Hi,
Are you originally atheist without any previous religious background, or a religion leaver? I am so happy to find atheists, as we all share the same thought, and all of us all over the world are one, as all of us are surrounded and targeted by the evil religious powers, and with their evil intents of religious slavery, tyranny, exploitation aiming at controlling, and governing the independent and the enlightened and the illuminated free thought and intellect.
