New here! I was wondering if you define atheism as a lack of belief or if you define it as believing there is no God. If the latter, what evidence do you have for no gods? I fall in the second…Continue

No problem.  You can indeed drop comments on your own page, but you should respond on the other person's comment wall.  If you reply on your own wall, the person you're responding to will most likely never see it.

Hmm.  A good portion of the activity of atheist groups mostly involves random social-interaction with groups of people who you don't have to worry about constantly throwing god-nonsense into every conversation that has nothing to do with it.  A lot of evangelicals have that annoying Christianese, going all the way down to their simple interjections; "Bless me, Jesus!"

There could be a group over in the corner of those board-game activities you mentioned with people who are having a discussion about the latest religious nonsense they've had to deal with, but it would probably be nothing formal or sophisticated.  Nothing like what you're talking about, certainly.

You wouldn't even necessarily have to travel much for the sort of thing you're talking about.  Lots of atheist writers, podcasters, and other activists will happily Skype in to talk to groups.  One of my local groups does that sort of thing on at least a monthly basis.

But you need some sort of strong organizational-structure, or at least one or two very motivated individuals, to get that sort of thing set up.  You probably don't have anything of the sort in that group you're talking about.

Your suggestion of book discussions sounds pretty cool, too.  I've read at least a dozen books on the subject, since I'm fairly heavily into counter-apologetics.  It's probably pretty difficult to get many people together for that sort of thing, when you're in a small town with a fairly low population-density of atheists.  The presence of the military base doesn't help either, since we currently have a bit of an evangelical infestation in most branches of the military.

Welcome, Darcy ! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends. You might also like Women Atheists, Female Atheists, and possibly Feminist Atheists.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since the climate is changing so drastically.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

Hmm, that's a pretty rough area for those looking for atheist groups.  There are several groups in the Atlanta area, but that's a bit far for social activities.  It's worth a look around on meetup.com for any local groups.  A lot of smaller groups organize through that site.

Failing that, there's random conversation and nonsense on here.  It's not as good as having people to hang around with, but at least it gives you people to bounce thoughts off of.
