The Teachings of Ethical Culture

This is how I operationalize the teachings of Ethical Culture, a nontheistic and humanistic philosophy originally developed by Felix Adler, into an actual praxis and way of life. About Me:
Atheism may be defined as the mental attitude which unreservedly accepts the supremacy of reason and aims at establishing a life-style and ethical outlook verifiable by experience and scientific method, independent of all arbitrary assumptions of authority and creeds. I believe that ethics should be based upon a realistic assessment of the ferocity of the human animal. Therefore, I promote rational self-interest which is still beyond the capacity of most people as the highest good as opposed to altruism which is completely unrealistic, and justice enforced through a rational worldview of Lex Talionis (retributive justice where the punishment corresponds in kind and degree to the injury) instead of undeserved mercy and forgiveness. Adults and even older children do not learn to better themselves or to become responsible if they are completely shielded from the consequences of their actions. Reality should be accepted for what it is, and not for what we would like it to be. Since we only have one life to live, we better enjoy the one we have and take responsibility for the consequences of our own actions.
