Against all odds we are atheist. What in your life do you think led you to be an atheist? Was it an emotional event or some combination of things learned. Can it be determined what is necessary to…Continue
"Tony, At one point you were accused of being demonically possessed. HOW DARE THEY!
Let me tell you a story. My wife's friend has a granddaughter that she is worried about. This little girl is shuffled around between her mom and the dad, and the…"
Just let me say, that from my experience of being in Church it is not what all the believers make it out to be. There was all kinds of in-fighting, mass hysterical prayer services, at least one fist fight between the pastor and a deacon up in…"
"I was a Christian when I moved to Alaska and participated in a barrel mission* to the Athabascan Indians who lived there for many centuries before the arrival of Russian and European exploiters.
The kindness of the native population to me, and…"
"Anthony, I like your term, "absence of belief in god(s)" much better than a lack of belief; there is no lack as far as I am concerned in not having a belief in god. What I lacked when believing in god was the freedom to make healthy…"
"I stopped attending church regularly when I went off to college, went through a new age phase and a LGAT phase, then started reading books like How to Think About Weird Things, FlimFlam!, and Demon Haunted World. It was actually when a friend's…"
"My parents were never church goers when I was a kid. I went with the neighbors sometimes, but not regularly. My grandparents were southern born agains who liked to talk disparagingly about the 'ni**ers down the road. Being from Ohio, I…"
"I was sitting around thinking one day about how my life is and how it compares to other people.... I realized I have a pretty dam good life! Loving family, good friends, good job, and im healthy. I said to my self.. who do I have to be thankful for?…"
"Your last line... "Just study it enough"......but why doesn't it turn out droves of atheists? I hear the tv church preachers selling their bible study courses (yes for the $$) and the churches weekly bible study groups…"
"What an experience it must of been going to church at age 17 (I'm assuming the first time?). What was it like -freakish, strange or feeling like you entered another planet knowing what you knew about the tales of god? Your comment…"
"Literally brainwashed as a child, I willingly fell into the theist crap hook, line and sinker. I studied hard and was to be the next big fundie minister, so my parents believed. I'm atheist today because I studied my bible too much. Just study…"
The main reason that I could never finally believe the bible is because long years before I got invited to Church at the age of 17 by a friend, I had read in my elementary school library of the tales of the Greek and Norwegian gods,…"
"It was combination of things for me. The way people behave in those religions don't help matters either. Books on religion say one thing, yet they do opposite. If they do follow those horrible rules then we realize how inhumane they really are.…"
"It began with a half-hearted attempt by my parents to educate me as a xtian. At first, we were brought to the local community church for services. Later, we were dropped off and picked up. Not that I resent it but that isn't how I would go…"
70 years old, retired blue collar worker, H/S and 1 year of college. atheist for 50 years and agnostic for 10 years before that. I was raised in a strong Southern Baptist tradition. I was always in the closet and I still am to a large degree. I am the first atheist in my family and have only met 2 or3 outside of the family. They are not close friends. I've been almost totally alone in my beliefs with the people I've been exposed to. That's a "BUMMER" !! I'm looking to make contact with like minded people after all these years.
