Vegetarian/Vegan Atheists

This once-active group is now unmoderated, and discussions / interest have declined to almost nothing. The original group founder is long gone.Active moderation is needed, therefore comments and membership are now closed. For re-birth of a vegetarian atheist group, if you are willing to moderate the group, I invite you to submit a new group.  There have been some great discussions and I am grateful to have been involved.  I am vegetarian and atheist, among other things, and would love to be in…See More

I believe in morality and doing the right thing, but i don't think there is a superior being who punishes you if you do not do these things. I believe in being charitable and making sacrifices for society, i believe in honesty, compassion, valor, honor, humility, and justice.
I'm a vegetarian for ethical reasons, i think that if you do not need to kill an animal to eat or clothe yourself, then why do it.
As far as abortion goes, i'm ok with abortion, i think it should be legal, but infrequint. I think of a fetus as potential life, not actual life.
i don't think marriage should be legislated in any way. I think gay marriage and straight marriage should be equally government-free. Marriage should be between individuals, not individuals and the government.
As far as politics go, i'm generally liberal on social issues and moderate on economic issues.

Greetings, Gary! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Thanks for the b-day props! Thanks for the offer, but I'll probably by his books myself. I believe we vote with our dollars and he's worth casting a ballot!

Hi Gary, I hadn't heard of Michael Pollan before, but now that I have, I'm very interested in reading his books. Thanks for bringing him up!

I've been dabbling more into raw foods lately. I'm curious to read Pollan's views on the subject.

Hi. I was beginning to "rethink" my christian beliefs for a while. Someone asked me if I believed that only christians would go to heaven? I said I did not, which was contrary to the Greek Orthodox religion. That's when I began to endorse the "spiritual" side of things. After stumbling (literally) across the God Delusion, I could not deny the intellectual honesty of Dr. Dawkins. I had never been exposed to that & quite frankly, it was rather refreshing. How about you? Were you raised Greek Orthodox? (Your name appears to be Greek.)
