Heh, so many good writers though. Can't blame you if you haven't read a specific, awesome writer's stuff.
Terry Pratchett also comes to mind. I have every one of his books, as well. Pratchett writes awesome, humorous morality-plays. I just hope he's got a couple years left before his mind turns into tapioca.

Humor is definitely a good way to go. Any particular sub-genre, or does that vary from story idea to story idea, sort of like Christopher Moore? Although, his writing seems to be leaning towards supernatural and theological humor, with the exception of 'Fluke'.
