Rites of Passage

Hi all,

Here in Ireland it's the "FirstHoly Communion" season. This "Season" has been long a manner in which young kids are "captured" by the prevailing religion for their dogma. If you are a kid of approx 7-9 years, a fesitval at which you are the certre is very appealing. It is tradition here (and I'm sure elsewhere) that these kids are brought around to the neighbours and friends whrer thay are tipped to a great extent in order to celebrate the great day.

Should we as parents (and… Continue

Joke against Blasphemy laws

As you may know, Ireland recently introduced a law making blasphemy illegal.

I feel the best way to fight this potentially dangerous law law is to ridicule it and the "gods" it seeks to protect.

There is a defence to the law if the "blasphemy" is not intended to cause offence so those of us in Ireland need to be careful that any such joke is intended to make one laugh (persons located outside Ireland need have no such scruples)

Jack, I'm terribly sorry for only getting back to you now but I'm struggling with the technology. You'll find the Humanist Association of Ireland here. We also have a local group which we call the Mid-West Humanists which is just a cover for free-thinkers and rationalists in and around Limerick to meet talk drink etc....

I'll leave that to your own discretion. I suppose how others chose to address me depends entirely on my demeanor at the moment.

You're welcome Jack. Definitely an OLD Irish name. Yes, after the Warrior Queen of Connacht. I'd loved to have had one of those pound notes before they were withdrawn.

I get my fada by copying-and-pasting, every time! I just can't remember the proper key combination.

Hello from another post-Catholic! I was never confirmed, so I don't know if I ever counted as a full Catholic.

Congratulations on escaping. We know how difficult it can be.
So welcome to Atheist Nexus----the world of reasoning, rational sense, and good friends. No dogma, no doctrines, just freedom for commonsense thinking.
