"Hi again Jeff.  Best to you on this "recent" change in your new life (not so recent really, it is now 1/10 of your life... like a tithe).  What you're embarking on takes courage, more than many of us have.  Only a few…"

New To Group

Greetings from Lawrenceburg.  Sandwiched between Nashville and the Alabama line, Lawrenceburg is the county seat town for Lawrence County!   I have been an Army Chaplain and Methodist Pastor for nearly 34 years.   It got harder and harder to "preach" because I was no longer believing what I was saying.  I could not tell that to the people so I played along until I could retire some 6 years ago.As you well know in Tennessee, especially away from the college towns, everyone is very conservative…See More

Hello Jeff!  I think you will find this the most liberating time of your life... I remember thinking often (after my realization that all I had been "taught" was nonsense)-- that I was almost "shook" by the realization that there was no "one" judging my every thought!... that there was no reason to invalidate my own thoughts!  Get books to read that help to put words to the feelings your having and give you facts and reason to help you articulate what you will want to be saying.  If you are interested, I could suggest some good books, etc., as can many on this website.  Good luck-- hang in there... real freedom is fabulous!

Hello Jeff. Welcome to this rational world of Internet atheism---a haven from the superstitions and fictional god of the masses.

"Thank true common sense as the basis for atheism."

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 450 discussion topics and 2550 members.

Hi Jeff, welcome to Atheist Nexus and TN Atheist.  I would think the weather alone in your part of Tennessee would be reason enough to forsake god. Also, what kind of god would make another man so resemble Donald Rumsfeld... or more accurately, make Rummy look so much like Jeff Foster? :)

Thanks for your service!

Best to you, Greg
