Sorry, rough weekend there. I didn't get much time at the computer.
I'm not all that familiar with the night scene in Raleigh, actually. I moved to the near side of Durham, recently, and I was in far north Raleigh, before that. There are a lot of entertainment venues in downtown Raleigh, though.
I've just always been more of the game-night sort. My last few social events have involved either board games or rock climbing. Although, I'll most likely make the coffee gathering this Sunday, with one of the local groups. That event is normally in north Cary. That involves drinking beverages, just not the sort you meant.
The two primary groups organize events through meetup.com. There's TAM and FAAST. TAM was the first group, but then there was a bit of a schism, because of the noisy, anarcho-capitalist libertarians. There aren't a lot of those, but they make their presence felt. FAAST was formed by a few people who didn't feel like dealing with them anymore, on the message boards.
There's also the Triangle Freethought Society. That's Todd Stiefel's baby. It's the local political-activism group, but they do social events, too.
Hmm, not sure how much activity there is out in that part of the state. The only large, active groups that I'm aware of are the Triangle and Charlotte ones. We even have people who drive in from the near side of the Triad (Greensboro/Winston-Salem/High Point) to attend Triangle events, because they can't get enough regulars together, over there. The Triad is sprawled all to hell, which doesn't help matters.
I had clients in La Grange and Dudley, in my last job, so I know what a haul it would be for you to do the same ... particularly since most of the events are on the Chapel Hill/Durham/north-Cary side of the Triangle. Not exactly a quick drive out to the corner bar for drinks.
