About Me:
I am an 80-year-old curmudgeon; I like the 1500s spelling best and definition:
"An ill-tempered (and frequently old) person full of stubborn ideas or opinions."
I changed from faith to science. I am a mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, a survivor of breast cancer thanks to the fine diagnostic work and treatment at Cancer Care Northwest, which included surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation. Dreadful stuff, but a wake up to living each and every minute. Life is to remember the past, live in the present and remember a preferred future. One can be good without god! My family demonstrates it

Rosa's Story

Posted on July 2, 2016 at 1:03pm 0 Comments

Rosa's Story demonstrates how religious dogma, social systems, and capitalism exist as part of the problem. She was my maid when we lived in officers' quarters at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, TX. She traveled an hour by bus to Juarez, Mexico to get to the border crossing. She took another length of time by public transport with a transfer to get to my quarters. She worked all day, a full eight hours doing all my cleaning and laundry and floors and windows, for $2 a day!…

Green Party's Jill Stein: What We Fear from Donald Trump, We Have Already Seen from Hillary Clinton

Posted on June 12, 2016 at 2:14pm 0 Comments

There are those of us who do not like Hillary or Donald. What are the options? None, really, because if we split the Democratic vote Trump gets in as President of the United States. The only hope is if enough if a spoiler comes into the Republican Party who are people  who can get behind another candidate to split it. Another option is to arouse enough of the Millennials…

Responses to "Prove there is no god

Posted on May 10, 2016 at 7:37pm 9 Comments

I ran across this post on Facebook from Ben Andrews on May 6, 2016. It offers a good, solid response to those who want proof there is no god!

"Proof there is no god?

"How often have we encountered the Theists, when you ask for proof that god exists demanding that you 'prove' that God does not exist, and then get in a discussion who has the burden of proof instead of answering the question…

Robert Greene Ingersoll quote,

Justice is the only worship.

Love is the only priest.

Ignorance is the only slavery.

Happiness is the only good.

The time to be happy is now,

The place to be happy is here,

The way to be happy is to make others so.

Thanks, Joan, I was wondering when someone would notice!  I figured it was about time to update things (the old pic is at least six to seven years old), so I pressed my webcam into service and ... VOILA!

Hi Joan thanks for your message. I've been a critical thinker since childhood but never actually considered myself an atheist. I've actually decided that's what I consider myself not so long ago! I do watch a lot of stuff about evolution but I feel like a bit of a noob among a group of self-proclaimed atheists! So hard to find that in real life!

Hey, Joan!

I just re-watched Seth Andrews' interview with David Silverman about the book, Fighting God, and I see what you mean.  I think it's less that Seth was irritated than that 1) he was being something of a devil's advocate to draw out more points and detail on David's positions and 2) that Seth himself is NOT a firebrand or not as comfortable with that kind of persona, though I HAVE heard him go on some SERIOUS rants on TTA and more than once.

My $0.02 worth.

Thank you for the nice greeting.

(This format is new to me, thus the delay of my response.)

Take care.

I am honored to be welcomed so warmly. I have a deep fondness for cats, they get under my skin and I love them a great deal. I won't get into my stance on, ahem, dogs. They say if  you don't have anything good to say, say naught. :-)  Again Joan, I found your request to be quite a pleasant surprise.
