My friend, the evangelical.

I have this friend who I love dearly.  And she's pretty Christian.  We have a lot in common otherwise - we're both moms through adoption to three year old train enthusiasts (hers is a boy, mine is a girl).  We're both liberal Democrats, pro-choice feminists, supportive of the LGBT community, mouthy and smart.

Visiting my brother's church

Posted on May 16, 2011 at 2:00am 7 Comments

My brother and I were raised by a single mother.  We were raised in Christian Science, with a minor in Judaism but we were also taught to question, think freely and to keep our minds open.  My mother, having been raised in what people commonly think of as a cult, was insistent on being kind and tolerant of other people's beliefs.  She accepts my atheism fully and is incredibly supportive of my husband and I.

My brother married a fundie.

My sister-in-law is a…

I joked with a non-theist friend that if she heard about a mom with a child being struck by lightning, she should go ahead and…
