"Maybe your mother wouldn't actually reject you if you were gay.  She's just talking, she's not confronted with a real decision.  It's also non-Christian because Jesus was known for associating with the socially rejected."

"You have support here, Kayla, many people have experienced the oppression of religion. Your pride in your son and your love for him shines through that awful fog imposed by your mother's beliefs. I wish you well. Thanks for sharing. "

Opening My Eyes

I am a 23 year old female living in the bible belt in an extremely religious (southern baptist) family. I have ALWAYS had questions and doubts, but I would push them to the back of my mind and just try my best to fit in. That lasted until I had my son at 17. That's when I couldn't forget my questions and doubts any longer. I simply could not be a part of something that would limit the love I am able to have for my son. First, I would be expected to "ask forgiveness" for premarital sex.... Why…See More

About Me:
I'm very new to this way of life. It's something I have always struggled with because I grew up in a very religious family and I always knew I was different. I am finally accepting who I am.

Nice.  Glad to have you on the reasonable side of the fence.  Being from small-town Tennessee, I imagine your family members are mostly a bunch of fundamentalist, faith-over-science types, huh?  Dealing with them should be a lot of fun, if you're ever ready to come out of the closet to them.  Meh.
