Howard Zinn R I P

Now that Howard Zinn has died, may we all reflect on his legacy and what we can do to continue to educate.
see article here
His A People's History of the United Statesopened my eyes. Zinn's essays, lectures, and interviews changed lives and opened minds. May we remain open minded and never compromise under the power structure of religion and greed.

Satan writes back to Pat Robertson

Satan has written an open letter to The Pat. The Robertson. The Big Bloated Wrinkly Fool.

A woman wrote a response to Robertson's statement about Haiti's alleged "deal with the devil".

Too sweet!

"Dear Pat Robertson,

I know that you know that all press is good press, so I appreciate the shout-out. And you make God look like a big mean bully who kicks… Continue

I am more concerned with the threat from the Christian-identity groups than the homegrown Islamic terrorists. It’s a disaster waiting to happen. The fact that this guy did what he did may be symptomatic of things to come.

My reply to The Cost of Religion thread

Because of God a people slept

For God they conquered

Mothers wept

For king and country under God

Over they innocent they trod

Yea, there were those to question "why?"

In public did those people die

God gave the rulers holy right

Worked Up

I am so worked up right now. Sick, angry, sad, pissed off and shaking, Baby!

Just came from the showing of the documentary "All God's Children" at Goss Memorial Church.

This film shows some of the abuse that missionary children endured at the hands of "God's people" at the boarding school they were required to attend while their missionary parents went about building a goddam church in Africa.

This is very similar to the abuse at a Southern Baptist reform school I survived… Continue

Kity, you asked as to progress. Here, it is. Most if not all are victims of their upbringing coupled with the evolutionary "belief" factor that a child has to listen and believe what this big authority figure tells you. That was fine when it involved the transmission of practical survival knowledge liks tiger kills, tiger bad. Those that accepted this survived to pass on the "belief gene" which has been usurped by both those in power (religious and secular) over time. Also the concept on animism helped to explain natural phenomenon in terms of the supernatural. Now initial indoctrination in the religion/belief structure of the parent coupled with intuitive thinking condems the child to a life long belief structure or struggle as he/she is educated in the "natural sciences" Lack of understanding of the scientific method, critical thinking and E-prime also contributes.

Given the financial interests of a few here in the US with regards to religion/propagating a belief in God it will be some time before naturalism becomes the accepted de-facto standard.

Hope that helps.
