Ghosts, spirits, and the like

I never did believe in Ghosts.  I scoffed at séances, Ouija boards, and all that nonsense.  Until at age 36, I bought, and moved into an actual haunted house.  Locals had said it was haunted and I'd…Continue

About Me:
In my seven decades, I've searched for answers everywhere from Buddhism, to Judaism, to several facets of Christianity. I once passed out after seven hours of continuous chanting in hopes they may have been right. There are a few weird things I still can't explain. Such as, how in the first pages of Genesis has a near-perfect description of evolutionary creation (before the whole "garden" tale). "Swarms of life began in the sea..." Humans starting out as vegetarians, etc. How did they know that? I'm either an Atheist, a Diest or the antithesis thereof - I dunno. I'm damn sure not about to join any theist cult in this lifetime!

Monotonous monogamy

Posted on April 19, 2015 at 12:39am 15 Comments

In our planet’s animal kingdom there are quite a few creatures that mate for life.  Swans, many types of geese, including the beautiful Canada Geese, some sea mammals, and many more.  If one member of a mating pair dies, the other member never mates again.  Isn’t that something?  And they don’t even have, “The Book.”  My contention is simple.  “If humans were also meant to mate for life, we would!”

My son Sean is an atheist.  Instead of a wedding ceremony, he and the mother of his…

Was there ever a god?

Posted on April 10, 2015 at 8:58pm 25 Comments

I, like most people, have become a victim of my own catch phrases.  Case in point:  I've developed a habit of saying, "There is no god..." and following it with, "...and there never was!"

The other day my wife was watching one of her "Ancient Aliens" shows.  She was saying how the aliens came down here and...   Well, I really don't know exactly what they did but the point being made was that the aliens were responsible for the stories in the Old Testament.…

Militancy

I wonder about the wisdom of denouncing all forms of militancy in association with atheism.

I by no means condone the illegal and deranged act the spurred this response, but we shouldn’t get so secure that we forget how hated we atheists really are.  The Islamic extremists who want to kill Christians and other non-Muslims, would be extra delighted to get ahold of an atheist.  When those TV evangelists stir up an audience over the evils that…

Last week, bull!

Posted on March 24, 2015 at 12:41am 8 Comments

HBO has a comedy show, "Last Week Tonight," in which an English comedian generally pokes fun at the USA.  He did a show about American prisons that lit up in cyberspace.  So many people from so many different countries are outraged.  I believe his claim is that we have more prisoners here than everywhere else combined; if it's true, so what?

The United States is a very rich country.  People come from all over the world to be criminals in the US!  We have…

Thank you Poot.
On the cancer, it is what it is. So far it has chosen to be quiescent. last scan last week, next in 6 months. The treatment tires me out but thats ok. People tire me out too. Planning to retire - I refer to it as graduate - in a year.

I went to Mediterranean in Oct. Athens, Ephesis, Istanbul, Pompei. Rome. It was really good. Mostly I like my neck of the woods.

Istanbul was strange for me. I spent a lot of time there in the Army. It was like, I know where this and that is, and I knew things, but it was like it was from a book instead of me. Interesting.

Have a great evening!

Hi Lemual, Welcome to Atheist Nexus, a good place to ask questions and make comments. This is a lively group and some of us are mad as can be at the role religion played in our early lives and decisions. I am a radical anti-theist. Some would prefer I were a bit gentler and I prefer that some would be more radical. I guess the Golden Mean is where we are headed.
