"He moves fast, but there is probably nothing technically wrong with it. I just don't like the idea of atheists having to prove anything. The burden of proof should always be on the believer. For us to say that we are confident god does not…"
"That's wonderful! I hope you have a good time; I love watching debates between the "heavyweight" atheists vs the religious ones!
I'm in a similar boat; as a teenage apostate, and still in the closet about it with the exception…"
So I'm going to see Sam Harris this Thursday night debate William Lane Craig at the University of Notre Dame. Upon hearing about the debate, I was thrilled to find out that Notre Dame is only 4 hours away from me, and even more thrilled when I found out that there were still tickets left (6 tickets left, to be exact. I'm way in the back, but at least I'll be there). So getting a ticket to this thing really made my day. A lot. I love watching debates, and I'm glad that people like Hitchens…See More

Thanks for sharing your story. The first few steps away from religious abuse are always the hardest, but you're headed the right direction! You mentioned wanting to find a therapist who helps people who were spiritually…"
"I guess I'm a year behind you, having just come out to my mum at christmas. But living in San Antonio, Texas, I know the feeling of being in the minority, and I'm only just beginning my journey into atheism. I can tell you that having at…"
"I haven't come out yet. Because I am older, I have an entire life worth of friends and family who knew me as a very religious person. At the moment, I don't know how to handle being a nontheist and still retain my friendships. Some of…"
Yeah, I lost my faith while in the ministry as well. I was a worship leader, which meant I was singing about Jesus saving me from sin with my guitar in front of the whole church. It was tolerable because I enjoyed making music with the…"
Greetings, Matthew! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since April. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.
Hey Matthew, saw your post about going to see Sam Harris! I think that is so awesome. Just wanted to know what made you deconvert from being an SDA. I was raised in the SDA church/culture and am now wonderfully free of the manipulative dogma. If you ever want to commiserate about the insanity that is Seventh-day Adventism I'd love to hear your story.
Hello Matthew and welcome to this great meeting place with its thousands of freethinking friends who recognise how religions deceive and control vulnerable people beginning with innocent children. We are sorry to hear of your sad story.
