I started a mini-riot in San Diego today. I was eating a banana outside of 7-11 and a cop walked past me to pick on a hobo for drinking a coffee. He was yelling at the homeless guy for loitering. I was like "I'm loitering then". I probably should have looked at my clothes first before saying that. Old teeshirt, cargo pants and worn out sneakers. Luckily a few more homeless people starting chiming in, so the cop walked off.
This is very similar to how religion works. If more…

This is the most aggrivating thing about talking to christians.
Why is it, that when christians find themselves losing fundamental arguments, they begin maoning and complaining that my atheistic view is a personal attack on them?
Just today I was called biased and close minded by a christian because I said evolution is real and that can be backed up by fact. Really? WOW! That made my monkey sad:(

What is God if no more than early mans way of describing things in nature that he could not understand or explained any other way? I am sure that when our primitive ancestors looked at the perfect balance of nature and all of the stars in the heavens, he would have assumed that there had to be a creator. Even our early human ancestors had the ability to create things, so it is easy to believe that they would assume everything must be created by something.
Mankind has just…

Did you find any turkey? ;)
I do not miss the religiosity rampant back in the bible belt. I get enough of that from family in Winter when I visit. Sorry for the late reply. I don't have E-mail notifications sent from this site.
Yes, I commented on her page.
Hopefully this weekend I can do some more work on the site.
Your idea is perfect!

Congrats. on the 'Navy Chaplin'. I am sure you assisted in some way. Even if it was just to open the door to reexamination.
There are definitely Atheist in Lake City. I encounter an atheist about every couple of months or so. They really pop out of the woodwork when a certain topic stimulates their reaction.
My daughter recently got married. And, I couldn't be more proud. For starters; My daughter and her new husband are both Atheist. His parents, two brothers and one of the wives are all Atheist. So getting together over the weekend is a blast! And, all of us can talk up a storm about Atheist speakers, shows and events without any ill effects.
In fact, when I went to the wedding it was about 95% Atheist. Loved it!
I too went through a deep depression after my divorce. That was in 2002. And, in 2003 he took his life. Which toppled me over again. It is amazing how much can be lost due to depression. It took a couple of years to rebuild my life. Now I am happy and certainly not complaining.
We are here! As you already know, I am an Atheist. An open Atheist. It can be difficult here in this part of the woods as the natives are insane god fearing mouth pieces. I do find myself continuously having to explain why I am moral and that I am not a satan worshiper as they seem to suggest... Unfortunately, for them, the land prices and for those whom love the outdoors, this area is a haven. Bringing in Atheist such as myself. Pooey on them!
Little story... About 4 years ago I had a metal roof installed. About half way through the installation I was speaking with the foreman. He began proselytizing to me. He was concerned about my animals. As he felt they were harboring evil spirits. I asked him what church he belonged to, where he replied; that he was the usher for the Meade Industries church here in Lake City. Fearing for the professionalism in my roof installation I kept quiet. Upon the end of the installation I informed him of my none belief. He was incredibly confused. As he couldn't figure out how such a nice person could be so nice without god. We had a few hour conversation upon my announcement of being an Atheist. I honestly feel he was quite engaged with my honesty. I apologized to him for not being forefront prior to the end of my roof installation. Explaining to him that Atheist do at times deal with prejudice attitudes. Where I had to be cautious.
Though, I have frequent encounters such as the above, this one in particular sticks out as to my animals having evil spirits and the way in which I handled the situation. Normally I am quite open with my Atheism from the beginning.
