Recovery Without Religion

Addiction can be overcome without surrendering your life to a supernatural fairytale. Or you can just fake it and say you love Jesus so people think you're on the righteous road to recovery and let you off easy.

Greetings, Melissa! Fun pictures!

I'd like to invite you to a group where we talk about anything on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D

Heh, guitarist in a thong.  Classic.  The logo reminds me of some of Tori Amos's album art.  She has a very ... Freudian turn of mind, a lot of the time, it seems.

The ö is actually pretty easy to do, on an American keyboard.  You just have to know your alt-keys.  The ö is alt-0246 (on the number pad).  Just hold down alt and don't release it until you hit all four numbers.

I'm working on getting myself up and ready, with the stand-up comedy.  The last couple of months have just been a bit ... off.  My weekends have just been getting chewed to pieces, and it takes me the better part of the evening just to get settled in after work, so doing a lot of work on weeknights is difficult.

Getting there ... just far more slowly than I'd like.

Hmm, yeah, pursuing your art, in exchange for throat and lung cancer.  I think you're better off without the cigarettes.  Besides, when you have a girl on vocals, you don't WANT to sound like a guy.  You'll be alienating a good chunk of your potential fan base.

I can go for screaming vocals, like Disturbed or Linkin Park, but the incomprehensible, unmusical vocals of death metal just don't do anything for me, for some reason.  Hmm, maybe you could come up with your own signature sound effects, like the ooh-ach-ach-ach?  Korn also seemed to do a lot of odd vocalizations which worked out well.  The vocalist's roaring sort of stuff was also good.  Death Metal just takes it ... a little too far.  I dunno.

Hmm, yeah, my roommate makes heavy use of Pandora, too.  I've just never messed with it as much.  Right there with you on the bland, indie- ... not rock ... not pop ... indie-folk?  I dunno.  I very occasionally hear some decent stuff in a coffee shop, but it's usually the most bland, inoffensive stuff they can find, which means that it doesn't exactly appeal to any particular group.

Still getting my crap together with the local performing thing.  If I was to the point of being able to make a living touring, I wouldn't still be doing the I.T. thing.  It's the usual story.  I'm juggling several things, on top of work and the stand-up, and the one thing I care the most about, the comedy, is the thing that always suffers when I run out of time.

I've got the hour+ of material, but I don't have it down rock solid, and I don't have my delivery perfected, yet.

Heh, and go me, on the name.  :-D  So, does the choice and position of the umlaut vary, every time you write the name down?

I like a lot of classic metal, but I'm not wild about most of the current stuff.  I need real singing and vocals, in my music.  Even Chester, of Linkin Park, screams in pitch.  Most death metal just ... I dunno, I can't stand the vocals.

Yeah, I saw something ... somewhere ... a month or two ago.  I'm a bit fuzzy on the details.  It's always a question of whether it can be done economically and worked into a  valid business model.  Fortunately, the insane spike in gas prices is moving a whole range of things into the category of being cheaper than oil.

I also greatly prefer the liquid hydrogen cars, but we have yet to see if they can get the infrastructure up and running and win people over to embracing the product.  Electric cars that you can fill up at the pump ... fits right into people's current car mentality ... and it only gives off water as emissions.  Sounds like the best idea ever.  Then, we just get solar, wind, and hydro-electric power into the grid, to supply the things, and we're golden.

Hmm, what does Doersovit mean?  Doers of it?

Ohhhhh, nice.  That's definitely the way to go.  What have we got, 20 years of fossil fuels left?  And the fissionable materials run out in 80 or so?

Have you heard much about the people who claim to have a viable system of growing a microbe they engineered which excretes ethanol?

Biomass analysis?  Which form of renewable energy is that relating to?  I've seen a lot about various forms of organic gasoline production, lately.  It sounds like one of those.
