Unless you were raised by atheist parents, you probably had some recovering to do when you left religion. The purpose of RR is to provide a landing place for people when they jump from religion. With local support groups throughout the US, Canada, UK, and Australia, and real-time resources accessible to everyone, RR is where to turn when faith has lost its luster.See More
I was born and raised Catholic until I left for college, where in two months of my freshman year I came out to my parents as gay. My parents, particularly my dad, did not take the news well and told me that there was "something evil" inside me. Hearing this struck the final nail (no pun intended) on religion for me. This was almost two years ago. In the meantime, I began to understand that my dad would never say anything like that rationally, but it was his religious beliefs speaking through on that night.
My doubts started as a kid, when I attended Catholic school in Birmingham (Al) from 4K to 2nd Grade where I experienced several incidences of sado/masochistic behavior from adults. Afterwards, my parents took me to public school where still went to church, but only out of ritual. All was lost for me, and it became permanent after coming out.
