Greetings, Michelle! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since Jan. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.
Yeah, I just can't imagine how anyone thinks that this world is the result of a supreme being who loves us. Either he's completely incompetent, or he's like some kid with a magnifying glass. What kind of douche shows up and announces his existence to the world, then fails to confirm it to later generations of followers who wander all the hell all over the dogmatic map and persecute the hell out of anyone who isn't in their dogmatic locale?
Every once in a while, any self-respecting deity needs to show back up and say, "You're doing it wrong, and you're doing it wrong! And screw you!" *smite* Otherwise, he's got no claim to any of us. Faith is bullshit, when everyone comes to a completely different answer, through faith.
At least I don't have any friends who are that wrapped up in religion. Admittedly, that's a result of a bit of a weeding process, on my part. When a friend proves himself to be too much of an emotional drain with no positive aspects (I've had a few like that, over the years), it's time to cut the cord. I think that level of religious entwinement would put someone into that category over time, as their behavior began to wear too much on my nerves.
Wow, yeah, turning to religion over guilt from something you did to a person. Meh. One of the many things that pisses me off about the religious mindset. The sin of adultery is treated as more of an offense against God than it is against your spouse. Most religious types have such a screwed up sense of proportion.
I wish I had the same relaxed religious-upbringing. My mother is still Catholic, although at least she doesn't go to mass anymore, since my father died.
Ya, I kind of expected more de-friending on facebook with some of the atheist videos that I post, but I haven't really noticed it yet. Maybe some of my friends have left and I just haven't noticed because I don't really pay that much attention to the no. of friends I have. But anyway, I don't know if they're just keeping me around as a novelty to laugh at or if it's like a train wreck and they can't look away. Only one Christian friend ever comments about the stuff I post, so I'm not sure how much they are getting watched. So far I've been able to resist making snide comments about some of the cheesy, sugary sweet religious comments that people post, but I don't know how much longer I can resist. I'll friend you on facebook if you want to see any of the videos I've posted.
