About Me:
I'm at a school where everyone is so open minded they're close minded and it's frustrating. I guess I'm here for any sort of intellectual stimulation. I want to think and shit.

Yeah, I think I know what you mean.  Most of the population falls for the most stupid, basic bandwagon politicking.  Hell, I had one of my coworkers telling me, just yesterday, that if we taxed investors at the same rate that we tax people who work for a living, they would stop investing.

How mindless do you have to be to fall for those Fox News slogans that they feed to the poor, in order to make them vote against their own best interests?  As if investors are just going to stuff their money in a mattress, allowing it to be eaten up by inflation, and not make $10 million a year off of it, because the government is going to charge them another $2 million in taxes?  Who buys that kind of obvious propaganda from the rich?  I don't understand.

I'm right there with you, in being a bit of a political junkie.  My entertainment is mostly listening to political and religious (mostly atheistic) podcasts.  I haven't watched TV in years, except what I catch at my sister's house, at family gatherings for holidays and such.

I find the perspective you're mentioning, about them all being a bunch of old, white men, running a corrupt government, to be particularly bewildering in a state like Michigan.  That state is currently being screwed hard by the Republican Party.  I would have thought there would be more people paying attention in that sort of situation.  How can people not realize, when everything is being passed with almost straight party-line, that it's one party that is corrupt, far more than the other.  Your classmates need to freaking wake up and examine the two parties, and they might discover a slight difference between the two, huh?  I think it might be time to start looking at the third parties, too.

And heck, Obama is okay, I guess.  I mean, I voted for the guy three times, including the 2008 primary.  He's done a lot of things that I'm not so wild about, though.  I hate when people gather behind someone and just cheer-lead.  You should always be critical of those you support.

Sorry it took me so long to write back.  The last week and a half has been insane.  Half of the office is out using their vacation days, so things have been kind of psychotic for the rest of us, trying to cover.  I think I've been crashing out less than an hour after getting home, most nights, and I was out of town for most of this past weekend.  I finally said heck with it and wrote this on my lunch hour.  I wanted to keep in touch with my fellow political animal.  :-D

Hmm, what sort of open-minded close-mindedness do you mean?  Is it the sort of "Every religion is true, and everyone's opinions are just as valid as yours, no matter how bat-shit insane they are," sort of thing that we have the new-age movement to thank for?

We mostly just have the usual sort of close-minded fundies around here.  I should get out west more, again.  I'm originally from the Chicago area, and I remember things being a lot different over there.
