Greetings, Noah! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Sorry for responding so late, and sorry for such a long response.

Well the first time I "lost my religion", it was pretty clean cut. I had never really took Christianity that seriously or even thought about it, I just called myself a Christian.

When I was 16 my mother decided that she wanted to read the whole bible with us in a year, of course starting with Genesis. So as I listened to the literally unbelievable stories in Genesis, naturally I questioned the validity of them, and that didn't settle too well with my parents. But despite all the attempts of brainwashing and fear-mongering, I became an atheist(after trying out Taoism and Buddhism first). So that's the simplistic first one. Sadly, there's a second one.

When I was 18, I suffered from a case of psychosis(I think it was brought on from stress, lack of sleep, not eating much, and marijuana. Or it could have just been because my brain's a little off, lol.), which my parents were convinced was demonic possession, and because I was completely out of my fucking mind, they had me convinced too. I had a non-Catholic type of exorcism performed on me, two actually, and although they didn't really help, they convinced me that the reason all this was happening was because of my atheism. So I tried Christianity out again, and for a little bit I thought it was right, but my mind was still in a fragile state, so I believed anything. Let me just say, you have to do a lot of lying to yourself to be a Christian, lol. Anyways, I got back in my right frame of mind and the critical thinking skills came back on and a few months after being a Christian, I stopped lying to myself and slowly crept back over to the "dark side" again. I must say though, I'm glad I went through it because it ended up cementing my atheism and skepticism.

Hope I didn't bore you to death. :)

Hi, and thanks for your welcome. I actually have two deconversion stories. One that's pretty typical, and one that's pretty wild. Which one would you like me to tell, if any? Lol.

Hi Noah, and welcome to this rational world of Internet atheism---a haven from the superstitions and fictional god of the masses.

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Gods, Atheism, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 440 discussion topics and 2500 members.
