Did Jesus Exist?

Posted on January 20, 2009 at 3:37am 5 Comments

Growing up Catholic, I questioned the inconcistencies of the Gospels, I questioned the rituals, I questioned the statury and pagan nature of worshipping Mary and saints. I never questioned whether Jesus was actually a real person, I just accepted it. Even later at 18, after seeing how completely ridiculous Christianity is, I still didn't question the historical Jesus. Was there ever a Yeshua Ha Notzri, or Yeshua Ben Pantera?

In my mid-20's I read a book about heroes and the hero myth,… Continue

Jesus Christ Superstar

I have loved the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar since it's release in 1970 when I was 8 years old. It was the first time I encountered a mainstream entertainment that questioned the authority of the Gospels. It was written as a secular work with Judas showing an audience the "passion play" while commentating on the unfairness of fulfilling a prophecy and then being damned for it. Anyone alive at the time of it's release will know that it caused a furore resulting in the complete… Continue

God in OZ

G'day world,

As an Australian I have always been proud of the lack of religion in our land. In 1973 Gough Whitlam, the Prime Minister, declared a full seperation of church and state.

In 27 years of hairdressing with conversations all day I have rarely encountered anyone of "faith". I professed my Atheism at 18 to very little surprise from my family and with no repercussions, despite my Mother being a teacher in the Catholic Education system. She gave me The God Delusion for… Continue

Yes, it is strange. After all, I have a hand in everything, whether or not the public realizes it.

Hi Mark! Always great to see another Queenslander on board! I'm Kris from the Sunshine Coast hinterland (Montville area). I was also born at the Gold Coast (Southport). Mum and Dad used to own a day cruise boat down there in the 60s - the Atlas - which ran over to South Straddie.

I'd like to invite you to join our Aussie, Kiwi and South Pacific Atheists Group.

You might also be interested in taking a look at a working group we've formed to brainstorm ideas for a submission to the Australian Human Rights Commission on "Freedom of Religion and Belief in the 21st Century". You can read the (unfinished) draft submission here.

There, that should keep you busy for a while! ;-)

Welcome to Atheist Nexus and this wonderful world of common sense.
Join groups, and follow /contribute to their discussions and rational debate, like the busy science group "ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Humankind, Darwin..." which has fine discussion, good writing, and seeks to understand the mysteries of the universe and how life and everything began. There are some fine video clips there too. Terry Meaden
