About Me:
Been an atheist for a while. I decided it may be time to get a little more active. I'm not sure what I mean by that as yet, but I suppose we'll see.

I enjoy science and mathematics. I have a PhD in the latter, but like most Americans I do not use my degree for my job. More or less, I got the PhD for fun.

I used to be a "live and let live" atheist until I moved to WV about 5 years ago. Since then, my atheism has slowly ramped up as my bigoted neighbors have shown me what a culture of 95% ignorant white folk can accomplish. That is, I miss the plurality of New York State.

RFRA Convert! I'm so Christian now!

Posted on April 9, 2015 at 8:05am 4 Comments

My apologies for being late to the RFRA party. I've been busy with work the past couple of weeks. At first, I was disappointed with RFRA passing in Indiana, but after seeing this article on the Church of Cannabis, I am inspired to go back to Christianity. In fact, I'm going to start my own flavor:…

Just the Good Ol' Boys

Many Atheists consider themselves free thinkers, independent thinkers, rational thinkers, skeptical thinkers, and so on. Take your pick. They all mean essentially the same thing as far as I'm concerned. I tend to go with Skeptic myself, so I'll use that term to be inclusive of most of the atheist/humanist views for the purposes of this blog post. Despite our inclusivity claims, the skeptical movement is still principally a Boys Club. I'd even go so far as to say a White Boys Club.

God is the Shit!

A few years ago I realized that most Christians don't even know the Ten Commandments, so in an effort to learn them myself so that I may feel the smug sense of self-importance that many Christians feel, I came up with the following mnemonic to to aid me in my studies. I hope this helps a few of you learn them as well.

1 - I am The Shit. Put no other shit before me.

2 - Don't make shit look like The Shit.

3 - Don't call other shit The Shit.

4 - Treat…

A Few Words on Faith and the Scientific Method to a Friend

Posted on March 4, 2015 at 6:30am 8 Comments

A few days ago, I had a discussion with a friend who enjoys having informal debates with theists. This is not usually my thing. I find the discussions to be pedestrian on account of theists typically not understanding basic concepts of logic. Their arguments tend to get get muddled and if I can get them to understand that much, it might well be deemed a miracle by the Catholic Church and I could finally become Saint Patrick #2.

I find that inevitably the theist will fall back…

Welcome Patrick. I believe you will find an outlet for some of your frustrations with the South here. Many of us are in the same position and understand how difficult it is to be an open atheist in a culture of willful ignorance.
