Interesting post from Peter Watts: “And God and the Economy Have Blessed Me with Equality

We know that both religious belief and the tendency to see patterns in noise increase among the stressed and the fearful. [Gregory] Paul goes a bit further, observing that the political positions of the religious right actually work to increase the dysfunction of these metrics right across the board. The right’s…

Here's some irony, and a chance to do some good in the world. The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the largest religious congregation on charity website

They are trying to raise $100,000 by the end of the summer and if you want to help, you can click here to join their team.

Freethinking for kids

In their latest issue, New Humanist magazine has an article by Danny Postel in which he discusses his attempts to provide his children with some humaist reading material, partly as a counterbalance to the Christian texts (and religious services) their mother, a Catholic, has introduced them to.

His attempts raised some interesting questions and the article is well worth a read.

It's really more patience than anything. :) Every now and then I think to myself, damn, wouldn't it be nice to drop the kids off at the public school down the street? ;) But then... not really.

Hey, you're in Belgium. Shouldn't you be in bed? ;)

Paul, an unschooler is a homeschooler, who doesn't follow a curriculum, but lets her children guide the way in their learning. Having said all that, I was told by several unschoolers, that I don't qualify as a REAL unschooler (even among those very free spirited unschoolers there is dogma to be found), because my daughter chooses to use certain text books for some of her learning. I guess, I simply am what I am... and I'll let other decide what they want to make of it. ;)

Thanks for the welcome.

While I loved and devoured The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (and Dirk Gently) about 20 years ago I only came to really appreciate Douglas Adams the man after reading praise and quotes by Dawkins!
