Hello from Michigan

My "conversion" to Atheism came in the 5th grade. In my science class (at a public school), the lesson was on evolution. After class I asked my teacher how could evolution be correct when the bible says the world was created a different way? Her reply was that it was up to me to decide. I thought I would agree with evolution, just because she was a science teacher, so I said I believe what the textbooks say.Her reply "I beleive in Jesus, and those who don't are going to hell"I thought that was…See More

Greetings, Peggy! I notice you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus lately. <sigh> Sometimes it can seem a bit fragmented, with different groups for every interest. Please consider a group for socializing, where we talk about whatever's on our minds, Hang With Friends. :D You might feel more at home.

Welcome Peggy,
I also grew up in a small, West Michigan town (Reed City). I live in St.Louis now, but still call west Michigan home. My extended family still lives in the area and I visit there often. My two brothers are atheist, but I have a sister who is still clinging strongly to her Catholic faith. I'm working on her, but it's a trying process.
Its nice to have a fellow West Michigander on AN.

Hi, and a friendly welcome to Peggy Wilson.
We are pleased to see you here among the sensible, rational people of this world.

This is the great Nexus meeting place with its thousands of bright people like you who recognise religion for the superstition and brainwashing fraud that it is---
and that gods exist only as fictions inside people's heads.

Terry Meaden
originator of the busy lively discussion group
"ORIGINS: Universe, Life, Earth, Humankind, Fossils, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its over 240 discussion topics.

We invite you to come and see, and to make good new friends.
