There are more up here than what you see here on the Nexus. David Broome helped start a Freethinkers group, and that is how I received much of my info. Networking is great. I don't road bike much, but we will be down in your neck of the woods this weekend for the ABA BMX Grand Nationals at the expo center.

I am always glad to see someone willing to think for themselves.

Thank you, and yes - bicycles. I'm sure the other ones are great and all, just not my style.

Thanks ;-p Just wait til I start eating babies and raping small furry animals...and plotting an orgy of slaughter and mayhem. I'm only just getting started in my Atheist Armor...what with all that immoral, soulless uncontrollable urge to sin and what not!

(that was a joke by the way, but that's what 'they' presume we'll do before it's over with...)

Oh, and by the way, sorry to hear your injuries keep you from running! But cycling's pretty low-impact, right? I'd love to try mountain biking, but I just started cycling in February and I only have the one bike at the moment. :-)

Thanks for the welcome.

Yes, you are correct that Obama does know we're not a Christian nation (thankfully!)...but I created the Facebook group as a direct response to one titled "Tell Obama we're a Christian nation". So it's more of a "back atcha" and group for like-minded individuals than something we actually need to do.

Hi Phil,

Yes, I'd invested all of myself into Christianity. I was studying to be a minister or a missionary during my undergraduate. My relationship with god was the defining characteristic of my life. To lose that has made me feel like I've lost my way, or my purpose.

Of course, it's not all bad. Most of it is pretty amazing; not being shackled anymore to this insanity that was my faith. But I have yet to find anything else that can respond to that oceanic feeling we humans have. I'm still evaluating whether it's important or even wise to have something that huge directing one's life. Who knows?

Thanks for welcoming me to Atheist Nexus. It feels a little lonely out there sometimes, as you probably know.

"The End of Faith" is a great bok. Haven't read "The God Delusion" yet. Not something you'll find on the shelves at the local library and I can't afford to of those luxuries I've had to give up lately. In fact, there are several books I'd like to read soon. Next time I'm in Norman, I could check out their library. It being a college towm, they're slightly more progressive than the rest of the metro area...........I think.
