Jim Mo. replied to Realizer's discussion Mormon Prayer in the group Ex-Mormon Atheists
"The only mormon prayer I recall using this form is the baptismal "prayer" and possibly some ritual in the temples. In Mormonism, the Holy Ghost is the "messenger" of the godhead, kind of like Hermes or Mercury in a way. Since…"

Brian replied to Realizer's discussion Mormon Prayer in the group Ex-Mormon Atheists
"No they do end their prayers like that. You can hear it both ways. Anyway, the Holy Ghost is just some kind of spiritual "other" that is watching you at all times. Gods CIA spook. It's undefined in mormon theology, like a lot of other…"

No, my kids have been absent from church for almost forever. It's the organizing of an out and out atheist group that makes me worry for them. I am a completely out atheist in town. But ya know, christians are ok with that as long as you stay quiet about the whole thing on a large scale. of course, maybe i'm just projecting fears that may never maerialize

Thanks. It's great to find this board. I've met a few atheists here where I live but everyone, myself included, is hesitant to start an actual meet in person group. I'm fearful of what kind of response my children would get. After all, this is the bible belt.

Don't you love how when you hear a preacher talk on TV about Revelation, it's all about the US?

And don't let the White house doors hit them on the ass on the way out. I mean, come on two incumbents in a row? Are people just getting lazy?

It took away the "reply to this" link on your comment.

I don't understand it really, but people feel safer when they believe that someone else is taking care of the situation. People are increasingly okay with the government taking care of them. All too often I've seen it, with Atheists especially, that they trade their servitude to a diety for a servitude to the state or their fellow man or what have you.

I can't believe someone in this day and age would think that the government is a benevolent force out there to help us out. They are so far removed, as individuals, from the true American experience that they have completely lost touch with the people they say they serve.

I would never say that I have any understanding of what it means to be an indigenous person in the bush of the Khalahari desert in Africa, nor would I run as a representative for them, but the congresspersons here have about as much ability to empathize with us as I do a Khalahari bushman.
