Radical Humanists in the Hood: Moving Social Justice 2014

By Sikivu HutchinsonIt was fitting that the recent "Moving Social Justice" conference in Los Angeles coincided with the Week of Resistance in Ferguson and a Week of Action against school push-out of black and brown youth.  In the midst of massive mobilizations around state violence and police terrorism much ink has been spilled over whether…See More

Leaving Jesus: Women of Color Beyond Faith

From The Feminist Wire By Sikivu HutchinsonThe 24-hour prayer sessions are the true test of a warrior for Jesus.  They require Herculean stamina, the patience of Job, the rigor of elite marathon runners hitting the wall in a fiery sweat pit at high altitude, primed for God’s finish line. In many small storefront Pentecostal churches these “pray-a-thons” are women’s spaces; hubs of music,…See More

Death of an Atheist Friend: Let the Faith Pimping Begin

By Sikivu Hutchinson

The American death industry pimps heaven hard, squeals like a stuck pig about redemption, then tasks the faithful with collecting the bloody dividends.  For the believer the death of an atheist or agnostic loved one is a theological crap shoot.  It invariably inspires fantasy, creative license, and outright bullshit betrayal of the dearly departed’s principles.  Such was the case with my friend “Miguel”, who tragically collapsed during a…

Yes we are trying our best and i am optimistic we shall succeed in having a secular Uganda, in our activities at KUHA we avoid confrontations with religions but try and do good by being tolerant to them but explaining the usefulness of being an Atheist

It took me 51 years to shed the weight of religion. I feel better physically and mentally. What is an additional inspiration is to find a segment of people in our community who are critical thinkers and non-believers. I am so glad to be out of the "Amen & Hallelujah!" corner. Pura Vida (Pure Life) from this point on!

Hey Sikivu,

Thank you for the reply,

I am going to Nova Southeastern University. At first, I was thinking about education either. However, I realized that no matter what, you end up teaching. Second, the reason why people are so ignorant/ intolerant of folks who are freethinkers, humanists or atheists is because they're ignorant or uneducated. Lastly, I noticed the declining numbers of males especially Blacks and Hispanics that are not being educated and I knew I had to do something about it. So, I feel like it is a necessity that I got involved. Besides, it will make me a better writer for my position as a Black Queer Atheist.

I just wanted to stop by and tell you that GOD... No, (LOL) but you ARE an inspiration to me. I have been a free thinker for quite a while, but I had yet to be very open about it, until about a week ago. I recently put my name and posted my picture on this website. It's all because of people like you out there blazing a trail that we hidden black free thinkers can join you on! Thanks!
