Hi, I'm Ted.  I've not been here in a long time.  Had to reach an exceptionally bad stretch of boredom to go back to my old email and be reminded I used to be here.  Sorry.So... I'm an East Texas boy…Continue

About Me:
Hi! I'm a somewhat disabled guy sitting on my front porch (when the weather doesn't suck like today) going quietly crazy in the midst of more red-neck right wing religious fanatics than one should ever have to deal with! Somebody save me, please?!

OK, so I'm also a house parent of eleven years, two great kids, a wife who clings to xtianity like it was the last rescue (But we love each other anyways! We don't talk religion... or much else for that matter.), and a house I love in the absolute wrong place on this earth. Give me a set of wheels for it (Mobile home, you see!), a truck, and an open road and I'm headed west as fast as I can go!

Anybody around here, like in East Texas? Let's get together for coffee and talk about real stuff!

I Hate Mondays

Posted on January 27, 2014 at 12:17pm 7 Comments

But it's not the usual reasons.  Or maybe it is.  In reverse.  Or whatever.

Mondays are the worst because I'm alone again!  The family is home on weekends.  Usually we have good weekends.  But then comes Monday.

My day so far:

- woke up real early, around four.

- made coffee

- woke the kids up after six.

- went to tell my wife good morning around seven as she got ready for work.

- told the wife and kids goodbye and watched, once again, as they…

What the hell, I have nothing better to do today than speak my mind a bit.  I really haven't written anything at all anywhere in a very  long time.  So here goes...

The biggest problem with humans is that they're so godlessdamned chicken shit.  I mean really.  When human kind learned to think the first thing he did was recognize danger and he ran like hell.  And people are still running.  And hiding.  It drives me nuts.  This is the real reason I just quit and don't really give two…

Where the hell have I been?

Beats me.

Oh, well, yeah, I know.  But should I tell?  Mostly I've been running thither and yon, metaphorically speaking, and sinking into a morass of self pity and morose depression.  I have papers to prove it!  OK, not really, but sort'of.  I keep trying to shake off this damned sense of humor but it just won't go away.  I even quit taking my Happy Pills so freely give by the VA and the pissant thing sneaks up on me, like today.

I'm ok if I don't move.  If I take my Gabby and…

When we toss our soul, what do we gain?

Our numbers are so few!  Even though I hear "more people are 'coming out' all the time," there's still a very tiny number of us.  Why is it that we have such a hard time finding people willing to admit to being atheist even when statistics indicate there are millions of us in this country?  I have an idea.

Atheism has nothing to offer.  We can get all freaky over reason, science, common sense.  We can prove religion is wrong all day long.  We can invalidate religion until we're blue…

well a lot of it is that I get bashed or cut off for telling the truth too.  I do just accommodate a lot of the time, especially in person - but I tend to be uncomfortable with bullshit.

And I'm sick too, with runaway allergies that are so bad I avoid going out.  I have been quite unsociable for years because of being sick.

So you see how we might have some things in common ...

Ted, I just spent the last half hour or so reading your posts. I especially liked the one about how to replace the "community" feeling of a church when there is no church. I am currently attending a Unitarian Church which has a "humanist" group but I would be happier if there were no "church" language...ditch the words sermon, worship, etc. I live alone and attend the Unitarian Church because it's the closest group I have found meeting face-to-face with people around my age (I am 68) who are "out" as atheists/humanists. Your post on the subject from 2012 was spot on and you put into words what I have been thinking but had not yet put words around. I'm trying to decide whether to try to start a "Sunday Assembly" or similar here in Arlington, TX (right in the heart of Red country...definitely in the minority). Peoples jaws drop when people in a conversation I might be in assume that everybody in the conversation is a Christian. When I say, "Well, actually, that doesn't work for me because I am a non-believer" or whatever, they are gobsmacked. I'm waiting for the day when they won't be because there will be enough of us "out" so it's not that unusual. I hope you have a good evening, and keep writing. You are a very talented writer, Steph S. said previously. I think you're touching more people than you have any idea about.

Thank you Ted for helping me feel better and replying to my discussion. What you wrote would make a great blog by the way. You are very good at writing.
