The person who said it never got back to me, but I am curious (to anyone who actually sees this, I suppose), what are people's thoughts on someone saying something to the effect of... "I am a…Continue

"Though I could call myself atheist, because the 'a' in my case stands for 'anti', as I'm an Anti-Theist. So technically I'm an A-Theist or Atheist, with a capital 'A'. So I think the term Atheist should only…"

"Good points DD.  From now on, I'm going to try to remember to not call myself an atheist."

"Precisely Idaho. Which is why atheist should be replaced in common language by non-theist. But, like Italians here have adopted the derogatory label of Wogs, as a badge of honour and defiance for themselves.  It seems that non-theists have also…"

"DD, that's one of the reasons I don't like the common definition of atheist.  If it just means a non belief in god, you can believe all kinds of ridiculousness and still say you're an atheist.  At the very least I would like…"

"I guess a half-Muslim is one who just doesn't finish the beheading of infidels, he stops at the middle of the neck when he realizes the Islam is the religion of peace. The atheist part of him says that he cannot believe what he just did."

"A Christian atheist is one who's trying to follow Jesus teachings, but don't believe in God of Christianity. A good example would be David Blaine showing how he can walk on water like Jesus, but he  doesn't believe in God."

"That is like being half pregnant or a non-golfer who plays golf. It simply doesn't work. You either believe in a god, Muslim/Christian or you don't, atheist. Half way is agnosticism, so essentially he is describing him/herself as agnostic,…"

"Jack, when I became atheist I found that most of my friends are really only acquaintances. With that said you can see why a lot of people will continue sticking with their faith. They know that to question and doubt you end up living a much more…"

About Me:
Atheist from the west coast (originally from Texas.)

I was raised in a deeply Pentecostal Christian home. We attended Church every Sunday, Sunday night, and Wednesday. Believing in God wasn't optional for the majority of my life, and it wasn't until I was in my twenties that I actually even entertained the idea that there was no God. It was a difficult deconversion, my parents were pretty upset. My girlfriend, who was pregnant at the time, was pretty unhappy as well. While we had both said we were Christians when we met, neither of us were practicing. I told her thinking it wouldn't matter, but shortly after it became something we fought about a lot, and she began insisting we attend Church.

The last year of my life has been one of growth. My girlfriend has accepted my non-belief, and even begun to make that transition herself as she began to really read the Bible closely. My father, while still at times struggling with my atheism, has also become much more accepting. My son, who turned three last September, is amazing, and fills up a huge amount of my time. Life is, for the first time in a long time, really good.

Welcome, Broken Xeno! Glad you could join us. :D

Please consider joining a group to meet people and talk about anything that's on your mind, Hang With Friends.

I also recommend Eco-Logical and Climate Concerns, since the climate is changing so drastically.

After you've searched for topics of interest in "Groups" above and in the "Forums", don't forget to look at recent activity which hides along the right margin of the page all the way at the bottom.

Hello Broken Xeno

Thank you for your personal story. Reading the bible thoroughly shows up the terrible bits that the priests omit. They get by cherry picking the parts that suit them. It's good to have you with us.
