Thoughts After Midnight

Thoughts After Midnight

I’m sitting here, listening to Harry Chapin. Just in that kinda mood. Harry always gets me to thinking, wading through the memories, experiences, joys and pains that have gotten me to this place at this moment. Time for some conclusions, albeit temporary conclusions, as the journey still continues.

All of us have the right to claim the commonality of humanity. We are all the same. The differences that we perceive are our…

Religious Music

I am a big music fan. I even have religious music/hymns that I still listen to. Wondering if anyone else did, and what are some of your favorites. Amazing Grace (especially on bagpipes), Hour of Prayer, Rhythmn of the Sea are just some of mine. Thanks, and peace.

Hey, Tony.  Happen to see my piece in your group on Leonard Bernstein and the Young People's concerts he used to present?  Thought it might be worth your time (and trying to pony up a bit of interest, too, admittedly!).

Glad you enjoyed it.  If you're interested in further suggestions or history of the band or whatever, just give a shout.  Oregon is actually something I know something about!

Hi, Tony.  Glad you enjoyed the Oregon.  I have a very nearly complete collection of their handiwork, and if you are interested in more, there's all sorts of stuff I can steer you to.  Just say the word.

Hey, Tony.

The issue of atheist / agnostic is one thing.  How to approach someone who made the statement you reported to me is quite another ... and perhaps not one best discussed in a work environment.

At some point or other, you might just say, "That issue you brought up to me the other day - did you want to talk about that sometime?"  Keep it simple and non-threatening and open, and when and if she is comfortable talking about it in further depth, she may let you know.

As it comes to Eric Whitacre's music, I still think one of the best performances is the first, by the BYU Singers under Ronald Straheli.  The CD that really got Eric big attention was the Hyperion release with Polyphony, "Cloudburst."  Eric himself has conducted two CDs, "Light and Gold" and "Water Night," that second released yesterday in coordination with Virtual Choir 3.0.  "Water Night is notable for its inclusion of a number of orchestral works, including settings of Eric's choral pieces for orchestra.

I haven't even mentioned Eric's work for wind ensemble, which would include his Ghost Train Triptych and his tongue-in-cheek Godzilla Eats Las Vegas, but we can deal with that another day!
