About Me:
Introvert & Atheist, makes me loner for the most part. I'm pretty use to it though. I have 2 children at home and my Grandchildren visit often. I live in a small town with a large Christian University in the center of it. I spent a good portion of my life trying to be what everyone expected me to be, but I just don't care what others want anymore. I'm living for me and raising 2 wonderful, responsible, educated, caring members of society.

No problem.  Plenty of people around here you might feel more at ease with.  Just watch out for the anarcho-capitalist libertarians.  The very small number of conservatives in the atheist movement tend to be of the libertarian variety, and some of them can be a bit nuts.

And I see the new stuff on your profile.  Jeeze.  I have three universities within an easy drive, but they're of the usual liberal, urban variety.

Oregon is pretty wacky that way, isn't it?  On one hand, it's one of the most atheistic states in the country, but on the other hand, you have one of the worst problems in the country with nutjob fundamentalists killing their children by trying to cure their fatal conditions with faith healing.

We have snake-handling Pentecostals killing themselves off with snake bites, in the mountains of North Carolina, but you expect that sort of thing over here.

Trisha, happy to meet you. Looking forward to sharing ideas with you and getting to know you better. Have you joined Hang with Friends yet? Ruth Anthony-Gardner does a wonderful job of moderating the group and lots of interesting people share there.

Hi Tricia, glad to see you on Atheist|Nexus. Although I am 78 years old, I too, was a single mom when my children were 10 years old. They are all 50 years old this year. It is a challenge to raise children as a single mom, but it is possible, and I can say that all three of mine have turned out very well. I can't take credit for it, alone, because I had a lot of good people on my team. However, for those who say a single woman can't raise a healthy child alone, they don't know what they are talking about.

Yeah, those two things often go together: introversion and atheism.  Religious indoctrination requires regular topping off, or the tank of your faith can run dry.

Strangely, I've heard very religious sorts admit to this very thing, only without the examination into why this is so.

Anyway, welcome to the site.
