James, welcome to Atheist Nexus. I lived at Wildwood Station, near Kenai, for two years 1959-1961 when it was an army receiver site. It was turned into Wildwood Correctional Center - Alaska Department of Corrections for a while. I don't know what function it has now.

I had many memorable experiences in Alaska and I enjoyed the Natives and Homesteader families. I wasn't too keen on the Army part of it as an Army dependent. I was an active participant in the chapel activities while there. It was several years after returning to the "Lower 48" that I left religion and all things involving belief in supernatural powers.

I am now an atheist, what one would call a "Hard atheist", and happy to be one. As an ex-christian, I know what you mean by "truth" and there is no simple answer for that. This is a good place to ask questions, share ideas, explore, experiment, and arrive at a position that seems to fit for you.

I am glad you join us. Look in the Forums and Groups to find topics that interest you. The Blogs provide an opportunity to get to know individuals better. If you find people that seem interesting to you, ask them to be a "Friend". It won't take long to feel comfortable here. Some Groups you might enjoy include:

Ruth Anthony-Gardner's group Hang With Friends

Wayfinder's discussion The Worst Part About Religion

Thomas Murray's discussion Religion and thinking
