Election voters seen through Moral Foundations Theory

I have become a real fan of the way Jonathan Haidt and some of his co authors approach how people make emotional and moral decisions. He's done a lot of cross cultural work to try to nail down the key factors why humans can sincerely disagree with one another. One of the key things you sense from his book is that strong differences are not necessarily because one side is evil, or misinformed, but has more to do with how they prioritize a series of inner axes. Sometimes opposite groups of people…See More

Obama visits gender segregated, anti gay mosque WTF

http://freethinker.co.uk/2016/02/04/president-obama-visits-gender-apartheid-anti-gay-mosque/The girls had to sit in a dark gym, the boys in a carpeted brightly lit room (apparently he didn't bring his daughters).I can see trying to underscore fair treatment of Muslims, but to support a mosque that is so bitterly opposed to everything we claim to stand for.... did he even think this through?See More

About Me:
I'm an old coot, raised JW, became sceptical then outrightly disbelieving many years ago.

Politically (after years of wandering through philosophies-du-jour), I'm strongly pro-individual freedom, pro-market, to the discomfort of both my liberal and conservative friends.

Day job is computer administration for a large corporation. Off hours I like anything with machines and tools.

Nice looking dog you have! "Securing" a dog is a concern. Previous dogs have stayed outdoors ALL the time, never running away . But I live out in the country. Free roaming is my preference, but the H.S. doesn't like to hear that. I'm losing sleep trying to come up with an alternative.
