The hacker that got the DNC server is getting ready to put a bunch of stuff on Wikileaks. A few documents were posted as teasers.Security consultant Cloudstrike recent announced they were called in…Continue
I put this in science, but it's also kind of political. For the past 4 months or so an anonymous Twitter account (Real_PeerReview) featured links actual papers in the social "sciences". The postings…Continue
"definitely. It's a matter of being as honest with her as you would want her to be with you.
It may not be a disaster. But it will provide a time for both of you to discuss one another's feelings, and understand ones own feelings. The…"
"Rationality sufficed for me until, during four years (1972-76) in Arizona politics, the published economic rationalizations for the Central Arizona Project failed to explain the behavior of Arizona's political leaders.
Emotionality (the fear of…"
"We simply rely on what survives from what is written.
Reliance on what is written, I read decades ago, was the method of Scholasticism (Aquinas et al)
Did a reliance on writing lead Deconstructionists (Derrida, principally) to value speech over…"
"Truth may be socially constructed but real truth will exist in a separate way without being tied to any culture. Rationality is best studied as we look backwards in time because we have no other view, but we can assign things to culture only in so…"
"It is the postmodernist viewpoint, namely, that all metanarratives are socially constructed attempts to gain power and legitimacy over others. In particular the metanarrative of modernism—that Enlightenment rationality and the progress of…"
"In that respect white people (basically caucasion) have taken over Christianity as well. For centuries we have heard that the Jews killed Christ. This is a philosophically religious remark that came out of ignorance in admitting that Jesus was a Jew…"
"No reason at all to apologize—it was a perfectly valid question and there are issues about the validity of some works of Aristotle.
The tooth anecdote is based on a written remark in Book III of the work On the parts of animals. Aristotle…"
"According to the author it is all philosophers who are white biased. Just in case your question was not rhetorical: The guy's name is John D. Caputo, and he is a professor emeritus of religion from Syracuse and a professor of philosophy at…"
I am so sorry. I guess my comment was poorly constructed. I didn't mean to suggest that Aristotle and his works were possibly not real or valid. Obviously he was real and made significant contributions to science and western though.…"
"Who are these white philosophers? What is the idea with this term "white?" Logic does not become racist. The idea that caucasian people become "white" is the very thing that makes this racist. Philosophers can be of any race or…"
"Christ left no writings behind, but Aristotle did leave extensive works—thirty-one books in all. Although the authenticity of some are questioned and some seem poorly organized, there is also an established history of the manuscripts and how…"
"You are right. It is part of an effort to discredit science and rationality in general by insisting on "different ways of knowing." Once science is discredited the hope is that some areas of the humanities will be recognized as the…"
"The Aristotle story has been popular for quite some time and in recent decades it has been cited as evidence of misogyny, but there may be an alternate explanation. There is reason to believe that the diets at that time were deficient in Vitamins C…"
"Decades ago I read that Aristotle (white and male) claimed that women had fewer teeth than men.
Two thousand years passed before someone (probably also white and male) counted teeth.
Was counting teeth treasonous?
"I can't see the full NYT article, but I think it is true that rationality was invented by the ancient Greeks. Sometime between Homer and Plato, they got the idea of informing public actions with factual truth, rather than appealing to…"
Nice looking dog you have! "Securing" a dog is a concern. Previous dogs have stayed outdoors ALL the time, never running away . But I live out in the country. Free roaming is my preference, but the H.S. doesn't like to hear that. I'm losing sleep trying to come up with an alternative.
