some extraneous info

I hope to one day influence even just one person sufficiently to have them give up religion and god, and begin to live their lives being good for the sole purpose of being good, and not to get into heaven or please their imaginary friend.I feel that there is a new richness in my life since I became an atheist, and a new love of being alive.I DO believe in something greater than myself: I believe in the power of humanity, kindness, and forgiveness.I believe that there is beauty in every culture, way of life, race, sexuality, gender.I believe in things that can be proven, seen, felt, touched; and those things which we cannot yet explain, I believe there is a rational, logical reason for being.

Greetings, ninjafury! I see you haven't been active at Atheist Nexus since March. We have a new group where you might feel more at home. Please consider joining  Hang With Friends , where we can share our stories and laugh, and discuss anything on our minds.

Hi Ninjafury, and welcome to this wonderful world of Internet atheism----a haven from the superstitious beliefs and fictional god of the masses.

We invite you to make good friends by joining the busy group "ORIGINS: Universe, Astronomy, Life, Earth, Humans, Religion, Evolution, Darwin..." with its 400 discussion topics and 2300+ members.

ninafury,  Good question.  This rock art is from SW Texas and northern Mexico area (Lower Pecos region).  The arid climate of the area has helped preserve the colors of a lot of these phenomena.  Breathtaking to be sure.  Most of these are designated 'Pecos River Style' (the ones with the anthromorph bodies) and minimally date to BC 2000-1000, but assuredly extend over a longer time.  Our current technology for dating these sadly destroys part of the image.  So, researchers are waiting for non-destructive techniques to develop to get a more refined age. Impressive none-the-less.

If you or your girlfriend are interested there are some great books with amazing illustrations available for pretty cheap.

-"The Rock Art of the Texas Indians"- Kirkland and Newcomb

-"Rock Art of the Lower Pecos"- C. Boyd

*LOL* Thanks bunches - glad all the ice is going away finally!! And much thanks on the Jeopardy tryout. Been a lifelong dream to get on the show (and yes, I go all the way back to the original version hosted by Art Fleming in the 1960s and 70s!!).

As far as Single Awareness Day, I can't claim credit for coming up with that one - it was coined by a long-time on-line friend of mine. But I agree with the sentiment. Glad you have someone in your life though, everyone deserves that. =)  Have a great weekend, let's try to get the Blues back on track!!
