A bus load of Christian gay people ... yes I said Christian gay people ... tour the country protesting at Christian colleges that discriminate against their gay students.
I just watched this movie and some parts of it were heartrendingly moving. It's really hard for me to watch things about cruelty to gay people. (To any people really but with… Continue

I've been a little confused lately. Well not just lately for probably about a year or so. A little over a year ago I was walking to and from work. I'd go on my own in the afternoon and my husband usually took the dog to come meet me when I got off work at night. We live in the down town area so just about every night we'd come across groups of people sleeping on the sidewalk.
During a majority of the time I've lived in the city I've tried to ignore homelessness. Usually it was… Continue

When my dog was a puppy we had a nice little tablet for the computer. I didn't quite understand why, we didn't have any sort of drawing program worth mentioning. One day when I wasn't paying enough attention to the dog she got a hold of the pen for the tablet. I knew my better half would be quite upset. He hadn't really wanted the puppy to begin with, and I didn't want him to be upset with the dog(well more so me for bringing home the dog) so I tossed the ruined pen into the garbage vowing to… Continue

For some reasons I enjoy writing aphorisms. You know, those short, pithy statements that are too confrontational for a greeting card, but too banal to constitute genuine philosophy. Often you'll find them on bumper stickers. So apropos of nothing, here is… Continue

With respect to my use of terms like morality and ethics I obviously don't believe I must stop using words that confuse other people when I have things worked out cogently in my own head with the terms at hand.
I'm not going to give over whole blocks of words to people who use them ineptly as in the Christian and Kantian use/ misuse of the word morality or the most arbitrary and Machiavellian use of the word ethics. The word abandonment strategy has been tried before. It is better to… Continue

on the legacy of George W. Bush are coming in from around the world, and the general assessment is, not surprisingly, poor.
Some might argue that bad times are best forgotten, and the era of Bush should be allowed to move past us quietly and politely. No "I told you so" from those who opposed Bush from day one. I don't agree. The tenure of George W. Bush as US President was a categorical… Continue

Atheism: a disbelief in the existence of deity
Anarchy: absence of government
How could anyone confuse these two? I suspect many people probably do.
A coworker of mine, in his mid 40s, is very open-minded. He sees worth in everyone and everything, even if it goes against his core beliefs. He's also intelligent - though he's only willing to go so far. He believes in both god and evolution. (Catholic, non-church-goer.) He has said he wouldn't want… Continue

I'm going to try and make this quick. This may be a little scatterbrained, but any helpful suggestions/information would be really appreciated.
Okay, so I'm a licensed massage therapist. I like doing massage, but in an attempt to not get burnt out, I only do it a few times a week and try to have some unrelated job that can help me pay the bills. Right now, I'm working at a chiropractor's office one day a week and I just lost my other job. So basically, I'm very reliant on this place… Continue

... Until the long, crushing, vicious nightmare of George W. Bush's failed Presidency is finally .... finally
... over. The wounds his despotism will leave our country are going to take a long time to heal, but I'm gratified that most of the US now realizes how terrible a mistake was made in electing that thug in the first place. W leaves office with the lowest approval rating on record - 22% - according to the New York Times. By any objective measure that rating should be 0%, but there… Continue

So I've been reading all the articles about the plane crash in NYC. The headlines say "MIRACLE IN THE HUDSON!" or similar things.

One of the first blogs I check while I'm having my coffee in the morning is vjack's Atheist Revolution, and many times, his posts are the inspiration for my own. Today, that is the case.
Today, he's got a post up about atheists' exclusion from the inauguration. There was a lot of uproar about Obama's choice of Rick Warren to lead the apparent National Delusional Prayer. The LGBT community was quite up in arms, given Warren's anti-gay bigotry and following on the stinging heels of the… Continue

I'm really not sure what I did to annoy several members right off the bat. Except exist.
I have life experiences just like everyone else. They make me who I am. Do I think they are "cool?" Well, no, I don't suppose I've ever been cool. But I'm honest. I had simply hoped for constructive criticism from more experienced writers. You know, help?
People use the internet as an excuse to be two things. Mean and stupid. I will never understand either, but, you know...good job!… Continue

The prominent Chilean fashion designer, Ricardo Oyarzun, has sparked outrage in his country by dressing up models to look like the Virgin Mary. On its own this wouldn't be so grave if it wasn't for the fact that they look quite sexy, in some cases with ample, near-naked breasts.
The Roman Catholic Church has obviously condemned the designer and attempts to block the show by conservatives were unsuccessful in court. The poor innocent Oyarzun said he had received telephone threats and… Continue

One thing that really gets on my nerves is when people are not thankful. I do so much for some people yet they treat me like shit. I can't say I do the best, it's not like I'm perfect, but jezz I fucking do a lot. Give money here, then there, buy shit, pamper people's asses, get introuble just so other people won't. Why can't people see how much they treat me like shit, seriously. Then people ask "Why do you do it, it's not like I'm asking you to?" Maybe I get a good feeling when I make… Continue

I have loved the rock musical Jesus Christ Superstar since it's release in 1970 when I was 8 years old. It was the first time I encountered a mainstream entertainment that questioned the authority of the Gospels. It was written as a secular work with Judas showing an audience the "passion play" while commentating on the unfairness of fulfilling a prophecy and then being damned for it. Anyone alive at the time of it's release will know that it caused a furore resulting in the complete… Continue

So I finnally installed windows 7 on my computer...and I have to say, I like what I see.
There is a nice difference between this and Vista, the task bar is easier to deal with and I do like the way that I can view all of my tabs that I have up in my browser window while the window is closed. This is a nice usefull change, considering that in vista, being able to see an image of a window you just closed seemed kind of stupid to me.
I do like the way everything is catagorized now with… Continue

So say the texts which Jews and Christians consider holy.
When you make something in your image you make it look like you, right? This would mean that the Jewish God responsible for the creation of man looks exactly like an ancient Jewish male.
This might need a little modification since there is some dispute over whether the creation god was Yahweh, El, a committee of Elohim gods or some combination of these. There is also the question of whether the responsible god was… Continue

There are now TWO religionist replies to the letter below, which require rebuttal. I’m again asking for activist atheists and humanists to make either a quick note or a detailed critique to a letter to the editor of my local paper. Both the humanist starting point and both (off-topic) theist replies are included. I invite others to post similar letters so that others can help out. Even a short note is valuable if the editor receives several of them. Please post your letters here when you have… Continue
