My entry in the NPR - This I Believe Project

I Hold Nothing More Sacred

Cognitive dissonance is inevitable when it comes to divining the nature of reality and truth.

Most religious people can reconcile solipsism - the sense that reality only exists in the mind - because, at the end of the day, they view this world as something of a sham - a virtual reality of sorts - with some other, more 'valid' existence awaiting their earthly death. There, all mystery will be unveiled, all secrets revealed, all aspirations… Continue

The Irish-English Conflict: Another reason why the U.S. needs a Separation of Church and State.

Another look at recent history around the world where religion and politics collided is proof the US should do more to promote the Separation of Church and State. This time I examine the Irish-English conflict.

I did it with my mind ... (a true story)

Over a decade ago, I was living in Seattle where the winter is mild and can't really kill you - but the lack of sunshine will make you want to kill yourself. So, one winter, almost two decades ago, a fellow artist and I decided to hitchhike to Tempe Arizona (where another friend's wonderful parents would put us up) and sell custom, hand-painted T-shirts on the campus of Arizona State University. (That part actually paid for our trip, believe it or not. But that is another… Continue

On Spirituality

In my opinion spirituality is a facility of the Human mind that arises from neurological processes within our brains. The results of these neurological process are as real to us as any other stimuli in our environment. In this neurological stimulation of our brain I do not accept that gods, ghosts, spirits, daemons or supernatural influence of any other kind are involved.

To understand spirituality we must first… Continue

Happy New Year / Happy Monkey 2010

Best wishes and a Happy New Year / Happy Monkey to all of my atheist friends :-).

My wish for this year is that all of our atheist communities around the world continue their steady consolidation and growth.

This is a huge achievement for a community which holds no beliefs in common and is simply getting together on the grounds that we lack a belief in gods.

We're not sheep and so our biggest challenge will be to learn to not only accept and… Continue

Continue

Happy New year!

Have a song:

When I go for a drive I like to pull off to the side

Of the road, turn out the lights, get out and look up at the sky

And I do this to remind me that I'm really, really tiny

In the grand scheme of things and sometimes this terrifies me

But it's only really scary cause it makes me feel serene

In a way I never thought I'd be because I've never been

So grounded, and so humbled, and so one…

The O3 Campaign

Please check out my myspace page and show your support. We want to get the word out so that the godless survivors of incest, sexual assault or rape have a community to speak up with or out to. The O3 Campaign is also dedicated to publically using the word 'Atheist'. Why? Because we don't feel it to be a negative word, and the more it is used it will become a 'household' name and not be immediately… Continue
