Too Damn Long

So I got distracted, life literally happened.

-Friend who attempted suicide back in life, and has gone full fundie. As in mercy ministries fundy.

-another friend died, his girlfriend insists it was suicide...but things just look to weird to say one thing or the other.

-family estrangement. stepgrandfather refuses to have anything to do with me because of my interracial relationship. Grandmother and mother,on my birthday, proceed to tell me how much of…

Confused History Teacher Calls for “Revolution”

With protests breaking out against repressive regimes throughout the Arab world, it is not surprising that people here would feel inspired. However, the activities in the Middle East are not revolutions, at least not yet. People are not calling for new forms of government or economic systems. They are simply asking for the bad guys to get out. Perhaps inspired by the Tunisians and Egyptians,…

Free Yourself from Self Abuse

Stefbot has produced some great YouTube videos that a worth a look. A few of which happen to fall under child abuse and how it affects us well into adulthood. The most recent one I watched was this one:

If you have time, I also encourage you to watch The Bomb in the Brain series. The statistics he uses are from The Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, which is an organization that does research on childhood abuse and its effect on adults. So… Continue

Opposition from family for becoming an Atheist

Hello Everyone! This is my first blog post on this site. Recently I became an Atheist after reading Richard Dawkins's God Delusion. I am seventeen years old. But as I would expect from any concerned family, my family couldn't come to terms with the fact that I am an Atheist. I explained to them why god cannot exist. I explained to them the truth in evolution and natural selection. That there was no place for God in all of this. They vehemently argued against my scientific claims. In fact the…

Shadow Boxing

Speaking with God seems to be quite common among religionists. It would seem that in these conversations the directions for solving world hunger, curing cancer and a host of other diseases might be a topic, instead of new ways to bilk Barnum's favorite group.

With that type of connection, it would seem that God might at least pass along a few hints and tips about parting waters or stopping the sun so we could have daylight longer and work 24 hours to catch up on the bills. Of course,… Continue

Few High School Biology Teachers Accurately Teach Evolution

I hate to bag on my own colleagues, but the evidence is overwhelming: most high school biology teachers either do not teach evolution or undermine their own teaching by giving nods and winks to creationist ideas. (See Most high school biology teachers don’t endorse evolution, by Valerie…

Never Back Down

I am very open about the fact that I'm an Atheist.I am Assertive/borderline aggressive. I grew up in an aggressive environment so I do not fear threats. I do not back down when challenged on the subject by ANYONE, immediate family & friends included. Example.

I have a very close circle or friends in my current location who I have known since I was 14. As I stated above I am very open about it, but I have been really lucky that none of my close friends have taken offence to my recent… Continue

You took a time bomb and a case of crackes and

you made a maelstrom of organic debris

Then you took a work bench and a rusty anvil and

you polished them for everyone to see

You have created an unhealthy monster, but you're nowhere,

nowhere to be found

So I guess I'll just cope with my provisions from now until

the day they lay me down

You took a baboon and you made him perfect

You took a lion and stripped him of his pride

Then you took a… Continue

So I Had This Conversation While Out On Date...

Went on a date this past weekend and our conversation inevitably turned towards religion.  At first I tried to change the subject, because as we all know, the 2 things you never talk about around new people are religion and politics...unless of course, that's why you are talking to them in the first place.

So anyway, she was talking about her religious history and about how much of an important role it is in her life, when she asks me the dreaded question....what…

I'm in this dating site called PlentyOfFish. Here was a guy's the first initial message:

After reading your profile I think you'll get that line and atheist = open minded. Great

Top 10 Censored Education Stories of the Decade

Rachel Norton posted the following list of top ed news stories of the decade. While I would agree that these were important education stories, they are all well known to most of the public. Yet each also has a hidden story behind it that has been ignored by the media.…

Immortal Volitional Robots Need Morality.

Immortality would not necessarily preclude the need for morality. There is no logical need for the futility of morals for an immortal. Why can an immortal volitional robot not choose that breathing clean air, while maybe not necessary, feels better than traveling to the moon without a space suit? Maybe reminiscing by the beach on a yacht on a sunny day is worth the money earned while providing medical care to mortals or teaching philosophy and better than hanging out in a trailer while watching… Continue

Do You Believe in the Matrix?

Do you think it's possible that intelligence, consciousness could be transfigured into code? That we could exist in virtual realities of our own design? I think it's not only possible, but that it's possible within my lifetime, and probably most of yours. I think it's possible that this will mean we can live as long as we want, secure as files stored in quantum computers, able to filter and tailor the experiences of our existence, like super-powered parental controls. We'll be our own Gods,…

Workplace thugs

So I was threatened today at work. Shirt and tie business office and he told me he would kick my fucking ass, but in a nice way. I am not amused. Worse, I copied down what he said verbatim, and sent it to his manager. Not only was he not fired on the spot but his manager had the balls to suggest an e-mail I sent him made him angry because it was "incomplete". I fucking hate bullies and thugs.
