Ensign Rose's Neighborhood.

When I was a kid, I loved Mr. Roger's Neighborhood. I mean I REALLY loved it. I loved it so much that, in one episode, when a man in a music shop snapped at Mr. Rogers, I got about as mad and upset as I've ever been in my life. As an adult, I've come to see how much Mr. Rogers influenced me and other children, and what an amazing person he was.

Now, I work with kids, planning activities and doing programs with children of all ages. Sometimes, when planning a program, I feel kind of… Continue

Miracles or Anti-miracles?

Why do religious people (or any people) consider good conclusions to bad situations to be miracles? Going about daily life on an average scale free of tragedy is not a rare, precious thing. It is the default. The real "miracle", or "anti-miracle", is that such a tragic and terrible thing happened in the first place. The odds are against planes crashing, being held at gunpoint, or being attacked by a shark. Just because one of these life-threatening situations ends in survival does not make it a… Continue

pull my chord from the wall

at the same time saying you won’t.

shake the trees to sway the sky

as if your motives are elusive or intriguing.

well who's unbound now?

this circuit board, sparked and igniting,

memory-mute and blood-solvent,

my switch is thrown.

gave in then up but not back --

stared-down from the distance

of separate corners in the room

and now expected to… Continue

Pardon me if I banter Christians more than the other organized religionists; I’m a product of the Catholic school system from grammar school to Boston College. The other religions are equally as farfetched. It’s just that I’m better acquainted with the doctrines of the church than the conventions and convictions of Judaism or Islam.

I rejected religious ideas at a very early age. The fables were too unbelievable, even to a seven year old: Jonah living in the belly of a whale; Adam… Continue

Blasphemy Day International 2009

Blasphemy Day International is an international campaign seeking to establish September 30th as a national day to promote free speech and stand up in a show of solidarity for the freedom to mock and insult religion without fear of murder, violence, and reprisal. It is the obligation of the world's nations to safeguard dissent and the dissenters, not to side with the brutal interests of thugs who demand "respect" for their beliefs (i.e., immunity to being criticized or mocked or they threaten… Continue

I argued against the Virgin birth.

A Muslim guy didn't like what I said about it being impossible for Mary to be a virgin - and told me he hopes I get brain cancer for saying what I said.

Wow, religion REALLY teaches human compassion. It's oh so evident.

My god

I don't understand blind faith. Since we all evolve from simpler organisms, doesn't it make sense that God is an eventuality, not a precursor of life?

This is why I worship my friend, Evan.

Simply because I can see him, experience him, and KNOW that he is there.

And if I pray to Evan, he might actually be able to help me with my problems.

And I'm waiting for the day when we're together and someone else brings up the subject of faith and asks me, "Well, what do you believe… Continue

Religion wants to be atheist/secular....?

It seems to me that the religious people, the thinking religious people who attempt to argue for their religion, do so by convincing the unbelieving listener that he is just like them. He begins to speak of the "mercy" of his religion, he speaks of how "Moses" was concerned with mankind, or that Muhammad freed the women of Arabia.

My point is: if you really believe that Islam or Judaism is REALLY the right way, then why would you apologise for it by attempting to adjust to a more secular… Continue

Catholics Living in God's Light.

More reasons to get rid of religion

It has always been asserted that illicit sex has been going on among the religious body of the Catholic Church. Besides the known priest sexual abuse of young boys, charges of Nuns having sex with priest, priest having sex with priest and Nuns having sex with Nuns have always been put forth. Are these charges real or just allegations? Well, a former Nun tells her story, “which details illicit relationships, sexual harassment and bullying… Continue

Taboo subjects and video

I just put up a short video briefly discussing aspects of guilt and religion and sexual control and religion. You can find it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ajdwru77hnc

I am very interested in talking about some subjects that have been taboo in discussing religion. For example; How does religious infection affect sexual performance or the ability to enjoy or develop healthy sexual relations? How does religion affect marriage and interfere with relationships? Religionists are… Continue

Discovering the secularist cause: New post at Examiner.com

Here's my latest at Examiner.com, under my new title, "DC Secularism Examiner." It's a brief history of what brought me to writing about atheist activism.

A taste:

As I put my career in professional theatre temporarily aside (populated by a generally liberal and socially tolerant demographic) and toward politics, I came to realize that while my own…

Who Says Atheists Can't be Altruists?

Some might call me a "social Darwinist". Let's face it, evolution is all about adaptability and our monkey brains evolved to meet the demands of a time 50K years prior to our own. Someone wonders why we're all stressed out and on meds? It's no secret to me ... we're not evolved to meet the conditions of this time - and it's only changing faster.

So I'm pretty comfortable with those who can't hack it not being able to produce as many offspring as those who can. That's how the species… Continue

Bobby Jindal, creationist, spirit warrior and next presidential candidate? Really?

Unless GOP star and amateur spiritual warrior, Bobby Jindal, can exorcise the recession, it's doubtful he's going to lead the Republican party anywhere good. (read on...)

Convention on the Rights of the Child

This morning at work the news was on. Annoyingly on Fox News. I don't know what that woman's name is that comes on in the morning but i can't stand her ... I won't rant about her right now. Anyway she declared that the evil childrens' rights treaty which was accepted by everyone but the US and one other horrid country will keep people from teaching their kids religion, spanking, and giving time outs. These things were actually listed in text. She repeatedly said "some people in Geneva will get… Continue
