A little experiment

I just put up a video clip from my recent presentation at The University of Colorado. It outlines a little experiment you can do with your fundamentalist or evangelical friends. Here is the link:

It is a great way to observe the effects of religious infection first hand.

The Pope: Dangerously Dogmatic

Several EU governments have expressed concern over the Pope's mind-numbingly stupid and undeniably dangerous claims that using condoms could endanger public health and increase the problem of HIV/Aids.

France's foreign ministry said condoms were fundamental to prevention.

German ministers said it was irresponsible to withhold family planning from the poorest of the…

Precisamos Fazer Um Aborto ...

Continue

theistic logic

I can prove santa clause is real using theist logic.

1. santa only gives presents to people that believe, but he does not give presents to people that do not believe.

2. I do not believe in santa and I didn't get any presents.

3. I have proven #1 with #2 so santa must be real

I also always loved the argument "it's beyond our understanding"

it's like saying "it's only seems like nonsense because it doesn't make sense to us."

it's basically the same as… Continue

Who is more stupid(or more dangerous) pope or Muslim mullahs?

most times when I compare Christianity with Islam I found it less dangerous and more tolerate-able . but some times priests and the Pope change my mind !

take a look at this New York Times article (his first statement about condoms)

Pope Says Condoms Make AIDS Problem Worse

here at least in Iran mullahs have no problem with condoms or other birth control methods or STD prevention .

How can… Continue

Nothing's Too Hard for God

So you know all those billboards the Assemblies of God church has been putting up? Well, I decided to visit their site, where I came across a prayer center. I penned a little prayer for them based on something that is actually happening in our lives right now. Here is what I wrote:

"I'd like you to pray that we recoup the $30,000 that an Assemblies of God member bilked us out of (right here in the town of the Assemblies of God headquarters). Pray that we don’t lose our house to… Continue

Dinosaur find raises debate on feather evolution

Dinosaur find raises debate on feather evolution

NEW YORK (AP) - A small dinosaur that once roamed northeastern China was covered with a stiff, hairlike fuzz, a discovery that suggests feathers began to evolve much earlier than many researchers believe - maybe even in the earliest dinosaurs. Scientists had previously identified feathers and so-called "dinofuzz" in theropods, two-legged meat-eaters that are widely considered the ancestors of birds.

But the Chinese… Continue

Thank god?! No, thank LOST!!

Wow, that was a close one!

A theist would say, "Thank god!"

I say, "Thanks to LOST!"

My satellite reception cut out last night. "No biggie", I thought, it'll probably be back on my morning." It wasn't. When I finished with my daily morning phone meeting, it was time to quickly get ready to leave... but one nagging thing: what was wrong with my satellite reception? LOST is on tonight and I don't want to take any chances.

I decided to take a quick look at the… Continue

Defamation of religion passages dropped from Durban II

Some good news at last from the UN, where threats by the European Union to join the US, Italy, Israel and Canada in boycotting April’s anti-racism conference, Durban II, have resulted in a victory over the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) .

Passages relating to “defamation of religions”, as well as… Continue

Idol Worship

I watch American Idol. Sorry. It’s one of my guilty pleasures. Go ahead and judge……

So last night was Grand Ole Opry night and all contestants were required to sing country songs, regardless of their own musical style. One guy did a Carrie Underwood song. Country is not my preference and I have never heard a Carrie Underwood song in my life, until last night. It was a song called “Jesus take the wheel” and it was one of the most irresponsible songs I’ve ever heard. I was so annoyed… Continue

Brainwashing and Out Of The Mouth Of Babes

This was a response to another earlier blog and I though I'd just put it out there for those that came out of religion after brainwashing their own children.

When I left the Jehovah's Witnesses my kids were 8 and 6 years old. They were fully brainwashed already. My son was able to go to the doors with me and give a 6 minute sermon including the reading of a couple of scriptures. My daughter was six and about to start doing her own sermons at the door. My little girl would be warning… Continue

I'm Serioiusly Considering Reading the Whole Bible

It's been popping on my mind for quite some time. I'm finishing reading my current books, and I really want to know my own rational opinion about it. I read some passages when I was in Catholic school years ago, but I was too young to really fathom any of it. I think now that I am a rational adult, that I'm ready for it! Although I heard its a fairly easy read, I wanna know it so I can have a clear mind in tons of metaphors in literature, and in culture in general.

My biggest problem… Continue

"You're an atheist -- how could you do that to your children?"

"You're an atheist -- how could you do that to your children?"

It's in our nature to cherish our children. If you have children yourself then you will know what I am talking about. (Unless you're emotionally retarded.) As soon as you rationalize that it is OK for a "God of Love" to put disobedient children to lose me!! (Truthfully, you lost me at the God part!) Parents in the USA would be imprisoned and (if in Texas, hehe) possibly put to death for killing disobedient… Continue

An apology from an EX Jehovah's Witness. "Sorry I knocked on your door"!

This is something I came up with in an EX Jehovah's Witness support group...I sure needed some relief and thought others may too!

Blame and accountability...these are two things that I gave a lot of thought to one year when I attended AA meetings...I was never a real drinker but after tragedy struck my little family, I fell apart.

Being an atheist I had a little trouble with the Judeo-Christian terminology in the 12 steps but the steps themselves were very helpful. I carried a… Continue

The Path Of My Salvation? (Door to door story from my days as one of Jehovah's Witnesses)

The Path Of My Salvation?

I was cold, tired, and hungry, but most of all I needed to take a piss. I had been preaching from door to door all morning long. The day was dragging on.

Fueled by too much coffee, I was in rare form. My sermons at my neighbor's doorsteps grew increasingly urgent as my bladder expanded. Oh, the urgency of God's message!

I had one house left on my assigned side of the street, and no Watchtowers left in my bag. I ran back to the car to restock.… Continue

Preaching the truth...

A monumentous thing happened to me yesterday.

I was ordained.

I am now a Minister for The Universal Church Triumphant of the Apathetic Agnostic.

It's a simple premise on which to actually base a church... a church is simply a formalised group of people who have basically the same view on God, right? So why not?

The church isn't made up only of people who define themselves as agnostic, there are weak atheists who accept that gods cannot be disproven, and… Continue

Gun Control

This was a mass email I received from a friend and my reply to it.

"It is now closer to reality than you think.

You're sound asleep when you hear a thump outside your bedroom door. Half-awake, and nearly paralyzed with fear, you hear muffled whispers. At least two people have broken into your house and are moving your way. With your heart pumping, you reach down beside your bed and pick up your shotgun. You rack a shell into the chamber, then inch toward the door and…

Filled with the holy spirit.

It was a miracle. There I sat, constipated and praying for the good lord to relieve me of the brown demon lodged deep in my colon.

I prayed and I pushed, I pushed and I prayed some more. Then, finally, with a force I thought might rip my pernium, it emerged like a newborn into a watery, porcelain world. A world where I planned to exact swift revenge on the assaulter of my anus by flushing it into an eternal abyss of excrement and mutant teen turtles.

When I looked back in… Continue

Witch hunts: a religious sport and capitalist venture

The more that I learn about history, is the more that I realize that history repeats itself over and over and over again only if collectively we as a people allow it. Life is a circle indeed. What goes around comes back around eventually. Take the Salem witch-hunts of 17th century American history. Many innocent individuals were branded as witches by unreasonable religious zealots. Some were murdered and many tortured into to confessing to being witches. Many were accused by a group of… Continue
